Artificial Intelligence in Action

in StemSocial3 years ago

Artificial intelligence has been around for decades now and has been a staple of science fiction for as long as I can remember. However, it wasn't until the last few years that artificial intelligence started to get the attention it deserves from the scientific community. There are literally tons of new technologies and ideas being introduced on a daily basis that involve using artificial intelligence in one form or another. Some of these ideas are being used for good, some of them are bad and others are a complete waste of time.

If we look at things closely when we talk about artificial Intelligence we need to make sure we are not making the same mistakes humans have made in the past. Many people are fearful of the concept of artificial intelligence because they think that we are creating a super intelligent computer which will be superior to all of humanity. The reality of artificial intelligence however is much different than what most people believe. In fact, artificial intelligence isn't even comparable to humans at all. Humans have built of great Artificial Intelligence programs such as AlphaBot, the robot that mastered the game of chess; Watson, the computer that beat a grandmaster at Jeopardy!

However, what many people do not realize is that artificial intelligence can never equal or even come close to human intelligence. Humans have been programming Artificial Intelligence computers with every single knowledge they know of the past, present and future of humankind for as long as humans have been around. It's only natural for an artificial intelligence system to get smarter over time. It is just that most people don't realize it or simply don't want to believe it. They prefer to believe that a superior human could never become as smart as a supercomputer.

While it is very possible for artificial intelligence to become as intelligent as humans, we are not yet there. I call this narrow ai, because artificial intelligence focuses on narrow areas of interest. Narrow ai is somewhat similar to human intelligence in that it takes care of narrow aspects of your life, rather than general intelligence. In other words, narrow ai may be able to program a robotic dog that knows how to behave in specific situations, but it is still going to be quite weak if it's sole purpose is to function inside of a machine.

However, artificial intelligence developers have already begun using neural networks and deep learning algorithms to teach artificial intelligence programs the value of friendship. These networks take large amounts of data, such as social networks and speech recognition databases and allow these systems to analyze and learn from them. Eventually, the programs learned from this large amounts of data became intelligent enough to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be able to survive in real-life settings. This type of deep learning allows for machines to function much better than their creators ever thought possible.

The main goal behind this type of system is for a machine learning algorithm to be able to replace a human being in complete and total control of every task. When this is done, you no longer have to worry about the constant stream of feedback that most people need in order to know whether or not their program is working correctly. In addition, the advancements that we have made in computer programming has also opened the door to completely automated systems. No longer do we need to be concerned with things like human intervention or human error. With the right artificial intelligence system we can completely eliminate those things and have a machine learning algorithm run things instead.

If we are to create artificially intelligent robots, we need to start by building the artificial intelligence first. We should find an analyst position in a company and teach the AI the best way to use its knowledge to complete various tasks that we have given it. At first, these programs may not seem very intelligent but over time they will acquire more skills and knowledge. Eventually, these programs may be able to beat each other at chess, beat all of the supercomputers at chess, and win against the best human players at chess, poker, and even online games.

These systems will also have thought processes similar to humans. They will be able to process data and information, solve problems, and make decisions. We are only just starting to scratch the surface of what artificial intelligence can do. However, I think it is safe to say that artificial intelligence will be changing our world for the better, and possibly the future.
