In the same vein, the importance of history means we need to be careful of the present, because it is the history of the future. A game played today will serve as a template for or against other games that will be played in the future.
Even though I try to stay away from politics as much as possible, the prelude to this week's STEMng is inspired by the ongoing events in world's politics.
Welcome to a new edition of STEMng Digest.
Who are we?
STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain are highlighted weekly.
Below are the posts that made it into our digest for this week:
1.@thomisin: Hair Loss and its Relationship With Your Health
While some people love to shave off their heads to achieve artificial baldness, some will give all they've got to have hairs on their head. Nevertheless, natural hair loss may have a lot to say about your health status - aging apart. Our first post for this week discusses the various health conditions that can cause hair loss and even gives some examples of famous people that suffer from such conditions. If you love learning new things, you will definitely life the post.
2.@eni-ola: How Staphylococcus Aureus Poisoning Almost Killed 300 Plane Passenger
If you've been wanting to learn one or two things about food poisoning, this post fits you. No, I am not talking about adding poisons to foods, it is rather about microbial food poisoning. The post is about a case of food poisoning by a species of bacterium known as Staphylococcus aureus. It makes for a good story that teaches a bit of microbiology on a flight. Read it to the end.
3.@nattybongo: Eye Surgery Misconceptions
There are just too many misinformation when it comes to human health generally. This time, it borders around eye surgery. People in the developing world fears anything that has to do with surgery and will try as much as possible to avoid it, even if it requires cooking up misconceptions. Our eye doctor decided to dispel a particular misconception about eye surgery based on a true life story. A cool read.
4.@merrymercy: Brand Name vs. Generic Drugs and the Evolution of Drug Ownership
Augmentin 1 g is currently about 30k in Nigeria. Yes, you read that right. But what if I tell you there is a drug that contains the same thing as augmentin but comes for a far cheaper price than augmentin? I know those who are capable may be skeptical but who don't have the means will be more opened to the alternatives. Read this post to understand more about brand name vs generic drugs. You will be glad you did.
5.@sam9999: Treating Blindness with Gene Therapy and Optogenetic therapy
You know about ultrasound? I can bet you don't know it as described in this post. Many people, including myself, know ultrasounds as diagnostic tool and never as a therapy tool. I just learned something totally new by reading this post. You should too! And don't forget to thank the author for educating us.
And that ends our selections for this week. Do not forget to give the featured posts/authors your maximum support. Thank you in advance.

See you again next week!
Talking about history, the Eko and Benin Kingdom seems very vague to so many lagosians. Just the way the so many people do not know their history. it is important that we begin to teach history in our schools again but talking about history in Nigeria, it is looking like we will still be making the same mistake of not documenting now just like we didn't in the past which has caused us a lot when it comes to finding our path. What we have now isn't documentation when it comes to event, we have news gossip, and fake news. For instance, who can give a proper documentation of the Ikeja/maryland Cantoment Bomb blast of 2002 the way 9/11 (September 11, 2001) Al-Qaeda hijack and bombing is documented?
You are right. No one is making efforts to properly document events. Many of the so-called histories that we have are vague, with people distorting them each time to suit their narratives. To make things worse, history was removed from our school's curriculum some way back. I think it has been added back recently though..
