#Hive's bases are inclusive, and the fact of working on the blockchain makes the content immutable and above all public. All these factors make it attractive for Open Science Initiatives[1].
The functioning of tokenized communities provides additional support to Hive's general machinery to reward good content, the one that applies the scientific method and at the same time recognizes the merit of what was created as long as we all have public access to the contents and the review goes beyond peer review, we can all be referees and the impact of the vote is proportional to the merit earned. A similar use has the STEM token, which in our opinion does not enhance the recognition of the scientific rigor of the publications and the accumulated merit since it can be traded or transferred.
News recently has been talking about other functionalities that should come to Hive-Engine, I have been attentive to some posts here on Hive and on Twitter. Many new things in Hive are coming that will undoubtedly increase its use value. I think that encouraging tokens that are not transferable, except for the issuer of the tokens to users within the tokeonomy, would promote many use cases such as the one we are dealing with here for the evaluation of scientific prestige. A similar token already exists, Hive prestige points, but these are general in scope within Hive, something more specific is needed.
I also believe that the wheel should not be reinvented, and that's why I write in this SteemSocial community because I think that within the Steem universe is one of the Mayo impacts linked to science, this could be the managing and governing community of this Open Science Initiative.
A sincere debate within the community could be the impetus for a concerted proposal that extends the functionalities of Front-Ends such as SteemGreek, or perhaps the creation of a new one that filters the contents displayed more rigorously (I am signing up for this task). When it comes to science, a little healthy censorship is necessary, that provided by interlocutors of ethical action and earned prestige. Not for nothing at this point in time, there are still human beings convinced that the earth is flat.

At some point, we considered creating a STEMsocial token for the reasons you mentioned (by the way, note that STEMgeeks and STEMsocial are two different things, and that we have nothing to do with the STEM token; for anything related to the latter, you should reach out @themarkymark).
However, we, at STEMsocial, decided no to create our token. The main question is: what would be the value of such a token? Or equivalently, what should we do to give such a token value? I have no answer to that question and I know marky is fighting hard to prevent STEM value to melt.
At some point, I was more in favour of creating badges , as well as having our dedicated frontend through which we could filter what is visible by default, across tags, without having to censor anything (so that we could show up a nice view to the external world). I still really want to deal with this, but unfortunately, finding a developer, dedicating time, etc., are all not trivial. I tried to do it by myself, but I am definitely too busy to handle that.
Anyway, thanks for bringing up the discussion. Too bad no one seems to react (I am currently super over busy due to an approaching grant proposal deadline).
Cheers!
Even though I have been inside Hive for a short time now, and I have been studying it before entering, I was confused and thought that the STEM family was united, your words explain many things to me.
A token representing prestige should not be transferable or exchanged, only earned. In this sense, badges may be the way to go. It would be necessary to create measurable parameters of the scientific impact of the publications and the accumulated merit of the authors and that this is related to the % of votes in new cures or of a trail.
I'm going to study the issue of badges inside Hive more in-depth.
In the same way, we could calmly create the specific Front-End, it will be my entertainment when time allows me.
Thanks a lot for commenting.
Cheers!
Abrazo!!
