English Version
In the historic heart of Lima is the Convent of San Francisco, an impressive religious complex founded in the sixteenth century. Its crypt, one of the most enigmatic in the city, hides secrets dating back to colonial times.
The crypt of San Francisco, also known as the catacombs, is a subway labyrinth that extends under the convent. For more than two centuries, this place served as Lima's main cemetery. It is estimated to house the remains of approximately 70,000 people, a fact that adds an aura of mystery to its atmosphere.
As visitors descend the stone stairs, they encounter a space of tunnels and chambers, the walls of which are decorated with skeletal remains that form eerie patterns. The skulls and bones are arranged so that they appear to form symbols and geometric figures, a grim reminder of the lives that once occupied this place.
It is said that the catacombs not only served as a cemetery, but were also used as a refuge during invasions. The strategic arrangement of the passages allowed the convent's inhabitants to hide and defend themselves in times of danger.
Today, the crypt of San Francisco is a tourist attraction that draws visitors interested in history and mystery. As they walk through the dark corridors, many feel a palpable connection to Lima's past and a deep reflection on the fragility of life.
The crypt remains a silent testimony to Lima's history, a place where echoes of the past and whispers of the present intertwine in an eternal dance of memories and legends.

For the rest, you are more than welcome whenever you want 👻
Seriously, I find a lot of beauty in this. It is like an art inspired by death, the past, nostalgic to think that all those skulls, in the end, ended up there without a name. That does provoke a terrible reflection because many of us are going to end up like this, without being remembered by anyone, uff, how scary.
