Kitties and Catteries and the upcoming Easter Holidays

in Hive Pets3 years ago (edited)
This morning it dawned on me, it's not far from the Easter holidays. My fam is going to be coming up here for the holidays which means I have some planning to do.

I'm going to have to book our kittens into a cattery for when the pups come up here. Generally I'm not fond of the idea, but when I had to book them into kitty accommodation over the Christmas season I made sure to find them state of the art facilities. When Lory and I went to collect them, they didn't even seem that keen to come home with us, they were quite happy in their shared condo, so I'm definitely going to be checking availability there for this upcoming holiday.

You can probably tell that once they were home - they were happy to reconnect. Oghma wouldn't leave us alone and Lory felt so loved. They have quite a special bond because I got Oghma a few months before Lory was born so they are roughly the same age.

Snowball on the other hand is very much the Matriarch of the family and chooses a life of leisure these days which consists of

  1. Eating
  2. Sleeping
  3. Snoring
  4. Meowling for love
  5. More sleeping

She's 15 years old this year. That's the equivalent of 76 years old in human years. I can tell that she's started feeling old. She doesn't jump quite so well anymore and I've had to put steps up for her to get through the window between the entertainment room and the bedroom. It makes me quite sad because she's been with me so long and I think I sometimes forget that she's not a sprightly youngian anymore.

Even though the vet was happy with her teeth and overall health the last time I took her for a checkup and her shots, I know she is starting to decline. I can tell by watching the way she walks, the fact that she eats more slowly and that she sleeps so much of the day. She has a good life though and she is so very loved.

Snowball weighs next to nothing compared to Oghma. He is quite muscular in comparison because he is still very active and spends a great deal of time next door looking for shenanigans with the neighbour cat (insert eye roll here).

He's quite a sweetheart though and every night comes and insists on snuggles by pushing his face into mine, then giving me nose bumps and purring loudly.
Everyone asks about his paw thinking that it's a recent injury, but it was like that when we got him at a few weeks old. The vet checked did x-rays and tests and said that it is nerve damage so he doesn't actually feel any pain and it doesn't bug him during his travels...he just gets on with it. Such a freaking trooper I tell you. Still jumps over fences, still climbs trees.

So just thinking about having to make the arrangements today for their accommodation made me feel a bit sad. I love my cats so much and I'm a bit worried about Snowball. She's not that young anymore and I think that winter might feel a lot harsher for her this year. Maybe I should knit her a jersey, I wonder if she would wear it. Winter is going to be much colder here so I'm going to have to make sure that the kitties are warm enough.

Perhaps whatever I make for them to keep them happy and warm this winter will go on to be the new cat product for my pet product business as well. Not a bad plan, but I'll write about that in a separate post once I've done it.

I'm hoping that because all of their innoculations are up to date that they won't need a trip to the vet. They really don't like going to the vet. Now the planning begins and I'm already feeling a little bit stressed out for them. Guess who's getting extra snuggles tonight ... and probably a tin of tuna too.

Sleeping and snoring like a feline champion huh, nice lol. Easter, hmmm, yeah i guess not too far away now.

Hi Captain.

Yup, Snowy has sleep apnea, she's had it since a kitten. She actually died and was revived when under anaesthetic while being spayed - the vet reckoned that it could have been caused by the apnea, I was shocked because she was only a year old at the time.

Between her and me - I'm pretty sure the last set of neighbours moved out because they couldn't sleep 🤣
