Almost 3 weeks ago my gorgeous Husky, Laika, gave birth to her first litter of pups, 6 in total. All were born perfectly healthy and I’m glad to say that they’re growing bigger and stronger with every day that passes.
New mum, Laika, is doing an incredible job and even though she sometimes looks fed up with the constant demand for milk she is instinctively doing what Mother Nature intended her to do. As for Milo (dad), he is still taking a back seat and only rarely allowed within sniffing distance of his newborns. Milo shows a healthy interest in his pups but I honestly think he just misses his bed and wonders when he’s going to get it back. It’s been strange to see our dogs so wary of each other but as soon as I take them out for a walk they both seem to forget about the pups and enjoy some playtime together. However, as soon as we get back home Laika rushes to her pups, gives them all a quick wash, and settles down to continue feeding the insatiable pack of huskies.
I sometimes feel sorry for mum, being milked like some sort of everlasting gob-stopper, but it is funny to see them jostle for the best spot and then instantly fall to sleep with a teat in their mouth.
Mum is so protective and you can visibly notice her discomfort whenever anyone handles the pups. We try our best to leave them be but they’re so cute it sometime becomes impossible to resist the temptation of giving them a cuddle.
Recently the pups have opened their eyes and if you look closely enough you can see that distinctive blue colour beginning to develop around the pupil of their eyes. As their eyesight develops the last few days have become very entertaining. The puppies now respond to our voices and as soon as you stoop down to the edge of their pen they come stumbling over to greet you with their tails wagging like crazy.
They’re only 19 days old but already they’re play fighting and working out who’s who in the pecking order. Every now and then you hear one of them bark and on rare occasions I’ve even heard them attempt the famous husky howl. Aaawoooo!
By the looks of things my family have a crazy Christmas heading our way, and if anyone thinks they’re winning the cutest crimbo picture competition they’d better think again 🤣
It’ll definitely be sad to see these little critters toddle off to their new forever homes but until then I’m going to enjoy every moment.
Hopefully you’ll all enjoy sharing these moments with me. I was asked by @thisismylife to post an update so I know at least one person is enjoying these posts 😂 (I hope this has given you the puppy fix you wanted 🙂)
Until next time it’s goodbye from Myself, Laika, Milo, and all the pups! See ya soon!!

Awwww. So cute!
And getting cuter by the day 🤯
Thanks for tagging me!
Oh My GOD! They are so adorable <3
Seeing them crawl with such a bunch truly brings up memories how my house turned into a puppy kindergarten for a few months when we had pups. But what an experience, I wouldn't have want to miss it looking back.
Laika is a great mom and she's lucky to be in such a great family..
I wouldn't mind if you tag me in future updates, you know for my puppy hit lol.
Much love!
Hi! And thank you for the nice comments ❤️ This post is dedicated to you 🐶🤣
I'm just trying not to think of all the dog mess to come and concentrate on having lots of mini-huskies around for the next couple of months.
I feel honoured! <3
You will take all the mess for granted because the overall feeling must be joy and laughter when these little rebels start to really explore the world. Curious, do you already have new families lined up for the babies? I remember people warning us to make sure these were found in time (we had a shepherd) and we thankfully only had 1 extra pup who stayed a bit longer than we hoped.
I hope yours will be able to fly out to their new nests when ready so the peace and calm can return (also for dad missing his bed, lol)

We’ve taken deposits for two of them and have a third viewing this weekend. Interest hasn’t been as strong as we’d have hoped but I’m expecting it to pick up once the pups begin looking like mini huskies. To me they’re adorable as they are but in a competitive market I guess the right picture helps. Secretly I wouldn’t mind if at least one didn’t leave home 😉 my Mrs on the other hand would lose her mind 🤣
Oh that's good at least a few are reserved. I was a bit nervous until the very last week if things would go through but having a contract/deposit is a must! At least then you won't deal with these stupid morons that say yes and then find another sweet puppy that they can take home a few days earlier and don't care what you do with yours.
The right picture helps for sure! Good luck with that journey :)

We've been lucky so far. The 2 people who've put deposits down are perfect owners. We've got someone coming today who we're not 100% about and it's tough to know how to handle it. Don't want to be too judgmental as we had no idea about huskies before we got ours and made tons of mistakes along the way. On the other hand, the sooner the better as the puppies are now on solid food and poo every 10 seconds 🤯🤯 🤣🤣
Oh that's good to read. I remember encountering such a situation where I had a bad feeling about people and had to tell them we would get back to them. Eventually we voted against it as there were other people we had a good feeling with. Follow your gut is the best advice I guess, I'd never send a pup home with someone that didn't feel too great.
Too many dog owners suck at it honestly, and with shepherds and I think huskies even more so as they need so be able to lose their energy. I was one of these too young dog owners who got lured in by the boyfriend at the time and his family, who had a shepherd (the easiest one out there and definitely not your typical Belgian shepherd, lol) and they made me believe they knew how to deal with them.
Then we moved into a tiny apartment (way too small for such a big dog) with quite a few behavioural issues as it was a stray before ending in the shelter. She was the sweetest dog but it was clear over time that my boyfriend back then surely didn't know a damn thing about the breed and I was the one trying to correct things. This only works if both parties word on that, which (you can guess) didn't happen.
I learned from this experience that it's not just a choice to make overnight and I surely wasn't going to hand out her pups without any thought about where they ended up. I constantly see people with dogs where you can already see, these dogs are in control, not the owner. I love reading how you are considering who adopts them <3
And yes! A lot of poo isn't it haha.

Wow .. They are so cute!
They all seem very healthy and well-cared 😍
Thanks! Just wish we could keep them
I know the feeling .. they grow up so fast and in six months they are gonna be big dogs. It's hard giving them away but you can enjoy them now big time 💕
It’s so much fun watching them play and now their characters are just beginning to appear 🙂 definitely going to enjoy it while it lasts.
