We love us some snow. We may be born and raised in New England as companion dogs, but we remember the roots of our ancestors and their lifetime of snow work.
Alaskan Klee Kai means little dog in Inuit. Breed was started by Linda Spurlin in the 1970's in Alaska. Sure we look like mini Siberian Huskies, but we have more Alaskan Husky in our gene pool then anything else. There's some Schipperke and an American Eskimo as well. Our ancestors spent their days helping their humans get around the snow. Detecting cracks in ice and steering sleds safely away from it.
Apollo still loves to pull. He is happy to help mom pull the two small humans around on sleds or tubes in winter time. He just lives for it every year. Apollo also enjoys eating his body weight in snow whenever given the chance.
Me Aurora? Sure it's pretty. And sure it hits my cost and generally just slides right off. But I like it for a few.minites then I want to be curled up inside near the fire place. I don't like cold feet.
Here is a photo of our bigger little human thinking he too can be a dog. Sorry kid that job is taken already.
