I went for ear mites in my cat and I found a bakery for dogs [ENG-ESP]

Visiting new vet with dog bakery.jpg

Hello everyone! A few months ago I came here to tell you the story of how I rescued my cats, Odin and Arwen. I still have to tell you the rescue story of my dog Athena, and my other cat Nefertari (not in the picture) but that will be for another post.

¡Hola a Todos!

I have recently moved house and neighborhood, and now the veterinary center where I used to go with my furry friends is far away.

Shortly after the move Odin (my blue-eyed cat) started scratching his ears compulsively. So did Arwen, since they are always together.

The first thing I thought was that maybe it was mites again, because Arwen came with them in her ears when I picked her up from the street and, although it had been months since she was cured, I thought that maybe she had left some remains and now she was the same again; and she had given them to Odin.

I made an appointment at the nearest vet to my new home, and I took both kittens to be checked.

The vet took samples of the ears of both of them, they were quite dirty because one of the things that the mites do, those little parasites that bother our friends so much; is that the ear inside is full of brown and black spots from their excrements and the secretion they produce, it is quite disgusting.

But the vet told me that they were not mites, that they had inflamed ears and it was otitis. He prescribed some drops for both of them and that was it.

After a few weeks Arwen was no longer scratching, but Odin was still scratching. He was leaving his ear with sores on the back, inside, and he was even losing his hair behind his ear from scratching.

I finished the bottle of drops prescribed by the vet and when I saw that he was not getting better, I decided to go to another veterinary center, a little farther than the other one, but it was also in my new neighborhood and I could walk there.

When I went in, I saw that unlike the other one, this one was much bigger and more spacious. They had a piece of furniture where you could put your cat's carrier, and underneath there were some thin canvases sprayed with pheromone spray so that if your kitty is very nervous, you could cover his carrier with that and that way he would be calmer.

Odin was calm, but his back was turned to me because he was angry with me for bringing him there. He had spent the whole way there meowing.

I turned around while waiting to be served, and it struck me that they had some sort of dog bakery.

Let's stop a little bit here and take a closer look; because the below is very common, the typical bones and stuff, but....

Burgers, tacos, croissants, pretzels... for dogs! I've never seen this level of detail haha, I couldn't help but buy a few things for my dog.

I also noticed that they had refrigerators with natural food, I had seen this because I had a neighbor in my previous house who bought this for her dog; one day she gave me a bag of turkey for Atenea to try it.... But she got diarrhea because she was not used to this type of diet.

We finally went in to have Odin's ears checked.

Odin is very good. Although he doesn't like to have his ears looked at and tried to run away getting back into the kennel every time he saw that we were going to hold him to check them, he finally allowed us to do it, even if he made short and sad meows to complain.

In the end, the suspicion I had about it being mites was confirmed by the girl who attended me at this vet. She gave him a pipette and told me to come back in a few days for a check-up.

They also injected him with an anti-inflammatory to relieve him and put a liquid inside his ears to stop the itching. While the vet went to get some gauze to clean the dirt out of his ears, he took the opportunity to look around the room.

After this day and after a week, he is still scratching but much less. The wound he had inside his ear from so much scratching, like a scab, was practically healed.

image.png

Even so, I like to check his ears and I continue cleaning the remains of the mites with wet wipes. I stretch his ear and with the help of my finger I introduce the wipe towards the bottom of his ear, then I rub his earlobe and take the wipe out again.

I hope none of my cats ever get mites again. They are annoying and take forever to die off ☹️.

Thanks for reading!

That's an interesting bakery concept. I recently found out that dogs like to eat human food but with some restrictions. Judging by the looks of the selections, looks like those bakery are really good 😁

Yes, it looks so good that I wanted to try the pretzel or the chicken croissant too haha. But I gave them to my dog and she ate them. At first she looked at them suspiciously because I was trying to give her the deworming pill too, so she took her snack biting carefully and sniffing to see if I hadn't put the pill inside... Because he always spits it out 🤣🤣 I have to open her mouth and put the pill in it myself. Thanks for your comment!
