Molly Celebrated Her 14th Birthday This Weekend..
But it wasn’t a joyful happy feeling good kind of celebration. It was rather quite the opposite. Molly has been under the weather again. But despite feeling bad and making several trips to the veterinarian clinic, Molly managed to eat up every last drop of her birthday ice cream. I guess that was the light in an otherwise gloomy week. It has been getting increasingly harder to get her to eat, so if it has to be ice cream then that’s what it’s going to be.
It started off last weekend with a trip to the veterinarian clinic for Molly‘s annual exam and her three-year rabies shot. When we got home, and later that night, a thunderstorm move through causing Molly a bit of anxiety.
She also got a shot of her DOCP for her Addison’s disease. So, she had a vet visit, An injection at home, a thunderstorm, and whatever else may have occurred… It was a lot for that poor little dog. After about 24 hours or so, she developed diarrhea, vomiting, lethargic… Whole bunch of crap. So off to the vet we go again after waiting a day or two to see if it improved.
We weren’t sure if it was the Rabies shot, her Addison’s shot, anxiety from the boom boom, or something else going on, but it wasn’t getting any better.
I loaded Molly up into the truck and headed to the vet office … AGAIN! We take her in this fluffy bed of hers. She seems to be a bit calmer when we do. A little comfort from home never hurts.
When we arrived to the veterinary clinic, we did what Molly loves to do most… Wait. And we waited and we waited and we waited. She hates waiting! She usually pants and paces in anticipation of the doctor arriving into the room. This time was a little different. She didn’t have that anxiety and I attribute that to her not feeling well. She just didn’t feel good enough to make a fuss.
After lots of waiting, several blood tests, some poking and prodding and what not, a few injections and a rather large bill, we were ready to head home and get out of that place. So back in the truck we go to head home and hopefully head towards a better place healthwise.
With all the blood tests they had to run, they had to take blood from both front legs. Poor girl. At least she got some cool bandages out of the deal! Camo her favorite color!
We got home and I found myself writing down all of the medications and the time of day were supposed to give them. It’s the only way I can keep those kind of things straight. We also made her comfortable as we could. She’s not eating much, not drinking much, kind of just lying around most of the time, when she’s not pooping her brains out. On occasion she does get a spurt of energy and is willing to eat a little more than normal. So we’re trying our best to keep her motivated and fed.
It’s hard seeing her so miserable. We tried to cheer her up with the baby talk and ice cream. That’s the best we can do until she’s feeling better.
The blood test result came back and revealed that her ‘Bands’ number was high. I never heard of bands before, rather than the everyday musical band. So that term was new to me. The doctor explained that it meant there was an infection somewhere in her body. So this makes sense. We added an antibiotic to the mix and Molly has been taking that for a few days. Unfortunately the antibiotic also can loosen her bowels which complicates the problem even more. Oh well. We do what we have to do! We do a lot of cleaning up I’ll tell you. Molly has also had quite a few baths in the past 72 hours. Ugggg.
Last night I saw Molly sort of hacking on something and I was afraid she was choking. I ran over and swiped her mouth and found this…
A Birthday Tooth!
Looks like the old lady is loosing more teeth. I guess it’s a part of getting old. We have to face it that our puppy isn’t young and spry anymore. She’s in her senior years and that’s always a tough part of dog ownership. They require a lot of care at this age to keep some sort of quality to their life.
That tooth may have been the problem anyhow. It’s possible she was losing it and a small infection started occurring under it. She did just get over a recent abscess a few months ago, so this may have something to do with that. It may even be the same tooth she was having a problem with. Let’s hope so!
HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY MOLLY!!!!
Here’s To brighter days ahead and more quality days than bad ones.
I find the calm after the storm very peaceful. There is beauty in everything, including the peace that follows the most darkest and violent of moments. I am reminded of this every time a thunderstorm passes with all its fury, later revealing the calm, beautiful, peaceful sky. We were too busy cleaning up stains from the carpet to enjoy it longer, but it was impressive!
Thank you for swinging by my blog and checking out the post. Have a great day!

Happy Birthday Molly🎁🎉🍰
It probably was the tool causing the infection. The antibiotic will knock it out.
My girl just got a new puppy.
OH MY GOSH!!! How stinkin cute is this!!!! Tell her best wishes with the new member of the family. So cute and still so small.. but not for long I imagine. Yes, we are hoping it was just the tooth. This morning my wife tells me she is a little better, so fingers crossed. If it's not one thing it's another with this poor girl. Not her fault, just the cards she was dealt. She has so many problems health wise that when a little thing comes along, her body blows it out of proportion.
Thank you for the concern and for the adorable photo!
She’s made it this far she’s a fighter. Thanks she’s a cutie
Happy Birthday Molly! That is horrible that you have been going through that. I kind of know the feeling. We take Jovi for yet another vet visit today. I have been working a lot lately, so my wife had had to handle most of them on her own. We are still fighting the infection that Jo has. If this last round of antibiotics didn't do the trick, I think they are talking about surgery next. She had a couple accidents in the back seat of my truck, so I know the whole lots of baths thing!
Oh my.. yes you know all about it in a much BIGGER way. At least Molly's bowl movements are the size of a dime or nickel.. not a baseball. lol. I think we've spent roughly the price of a small car on this gal, but somehow don't regret a single penny of it. She's worth it to us.. still hurts though lol.
I can't believe Jovi is still battling that infection! It's been a while now. 😕
It sounds like they finally found the right meds. She had an appointment today and she got a clean bill of health. Well as clean as can be for a 13 year old.
Oh Good! Glad to hear that. Yeah 13 is a senior even though they are still puppies to us.
Poor Molly! What a way to come into her 14th year...
My old cat Bryde, is 21 this year (101 cat years) and goes through these spells of not eating much. She is currently in one. She also has lost teeth, most of them in fact.
I sure hope Molly feels better soon...
Yeah I know. Poor gal. 21??!! That's awesome. Sounds like she has a touch of feeling old too. It's part of life, but not one we look forward to, that's for sure.
Thank you for the well wishes! 😊
Molly is still photogenic, even though she doesn't feel well. I hope the tooth was the biggest problem, and she recovers now that it's gone. Love one of those shots of her at the vet, where she's sitting up on her fluffy next to your arm looking straight at the camera. Lots of spunk in that old gal yet.
haha.. Yeah she was intently watching that door for movement. hehe. I hope it was just a tooth and we are on the road to recovery. It is always something with her. Never ending it seems.
Well, Happy Birthday Molly! A tough week for the old girl, but ice cream at the end is always nice! Maybe the tooth fairy will leave her a treat, too.
Maybe he will.. lol. More Ice Cream perhaps. She has had her fair share of problems, that's for sure. Be nice to have one month free and clear of illness.
Happy Birthday, pretty Molly! 🍰🍦
I hope she's feeling better already...
Awww.. an ice cream emoji! Love It!!! Me too. I can't wait till all this stuff going on with her is over and she is feeling better again. She is getting old so we expect this sort of thing. I'm not ready for her to get old :-/
Happy birthday to Molly !!
Thank you! She's getting up there in age.. Old gal now. Still our baby though. 😊
Happy birthday Molly! She looks so lovely and gentle as always.
Awww.. She and I say thank you! I hope you are well and good 😁

Yes.. we get that a lot actually. She is aging well! lol. She does look like a puppy most days but sometimes I see the old gal in her.
