❤️ I'm donating everything this post is making to help REUNITE PETS WITH THEIR FAMILY - Please read and support! Explaining how to bring your pet to another country.❤️

in Hive Pets4 years ago (edited)

In order to support @edprivat to get his family members home I am creating this post.

He doesn't know about my initiative, but being a dog owner myself and having had to fly in my beloved Molly as well I know what they are going through.

After reading his post https://peakd.com/hive-120078/@edprivat/this-month-on-the-farm-1#@edprivat/re-bulldog-joy-qprsp8 I was touched by the story and the little comments we exchanged. He and his dogs are separated for a year now.

Yeah I know, it's been excruciating not to be with them. I haven't left my dog Jacky (the husky) more than few days for 8 years, it's a very long time, he deservers a good retirement now for the rest of his days. The other one is younger, so he will forgive me I think.

I asked when they will be in France, being flown in from South Africa and was moved by his response.

They were supposed to be here mid march, but we struggled gathering the funds. It might take an extra month, we are nearly there :)

So maybe I or rather we all can help a little bit. I am going to donate everything this post is making to @edprivat by setting him as the beneficiary.

What you can do is support this post by upvoting and reblogging!

My lovely Molly R.I.P.

What it took to get Molly from the USA to Germany.

When bringing a dog/pet over from a different country you have to jump through a lot of hoops.

But they are family members and so they shouldn't be left behind.

Also flying rescued animals to their new homes is the same struggle, but an important step to reduce the suffer of so many animals caused by us humans.

You have to make sure you got a big enough crate. On the pics below you see the crate I flew Molly in with.

It has to be big enough that the dog can stand upright and turn around.

Molly was a rather small Bulldog of 20kg but the crate had to be huge.
My bike boots have the same height Molly had, just for comparison.

Now imagine how big a crate has to be for a large dog, they are expensive too.

I bought a water bottle for rabbits that could be installed at the grid, so Molly could drink during her 24hour journey.

Before bringing a pet to a different country there is a long journey of paperwork waiting for you. Depending from where you are flying from and where to the restrictions differ.

Islands are more restrict than mainlands but each country has also its own rules.

So before scheduling a flight for your pet you have to make sure to have followed all the restrictions and requirements prior to the import/ export of your pet.
Go to the countries Agricultural Department page or their Veterinarian Department page for informations. Also the websites of the bigger Airports might offer links and informations regarding the import of Live Animals. Check the custom regulations.

In Mollys case, being a Bulldog you have to follow specific rules regarding the time of flight. It was only possible in wintertime, due to the temperatures. Also not every airline is flying every breed because of health issues!!!!!!

You can see some specifics below.

Getting all the paperwork ready takes a long time, so you have to start early on with the preparations before booking a flight.

In Mollys case it took me more than 6 month to get every vaccination and paperwork together. So booking a flight is the last step in getting your dog / pet from one country to another.

Below is the paperwork from the European Union I had to have in order to fly Molly in from the States.

I had to make sure she is having every vaccine necessary and that she was a breed allowed to enter the EU.

You have to have every certificate of vaccination and other required documents ready in order to fly your pet in.

Going through the vaccination process requires months before the actual flight because the vaccines have to be repeated in certain time intervals.

That is why planing bringing your pets over in advance is so crucial. There is no hopping on a plane with it. Planing is key!

Depending on your dogs breed and the requirements of each country there are different steps of action demanded. Some breeds are only allowed to enter another country when spayed or neutered.

The cost of bringing a pet over varies but after all it is an expensive procedure. These are just examples of the veterinarian costs, but you have to calculate transport fees, plane ticket, fees in general, veterinarian expenses.

To fly Molly from the States to Germany cost around 3000$ if I remember it right.

Why am I doing this?

Because I'm a pet owner myself. Every living being has feelings, so do our pets. They are family members, they do remember us, they feel sadness and grasp that we have left them. They are like us with the same feelings and emotions, just a different language. Same with cows, chicken, pigs etc.

I was in the same situation, to get my dog to another country and to imagine having to leave them behind is just hurtful.

If I would struggle to get my family reunited I would be relieved if someone offers help. In any situation where help is needed period.

Each one of us might be in need of support, asked for or not, and each one of us can do a little. It doesn't have to be millions, but if many give a little it is a lot in the end.

If you have questions regarding the import / export of your pet feel free to ask.

Yeah very good of you! We've been supporting a program over here that moves pets from kill shelters in the south to foster homes in the north for a few years. We actually rescued Ms. Mabel through that program, and she's got a good forever home now -

Nice, lucky Ms. Mabel :) She's cute. Looks like she is having some Coonhound in her...and some Terrier lol. Lots of energy I suppose.

Definitely a terrier, and maybe some cattle dog, they thought? Lots of energy and lots of shedding!

That is so awesome of you to do and I appreciate your in-depth post about it!
Unless you get into that situation, nobody can fathom the incredible difficulties to fly in a dog from another country, it's hysterical. Myself am separated from my own dog since the plandemic too and I've had my own share of dead-ends, so I know exactly how you feel @edprivat & fam', and I am very excited for you guys to finally be reunited with them soon 🐕❤️

One of my neighbour told me the other day; "it's just a dog, why do you care". I wanted to slap him right across the face, and he saw it. The next sentence he admitted that he would do the same for his baby dog. Family should always stay together, no matter what. Good luck, and I hope you can manage to reunite with your loved one, I waited since the 21st September 2019, i remember their faces when I left them. I dream about them every night, but try no to think too much of them, as I know they would do something stupid.

Aw thanks! Yea I feel you. It's a long story full of dead-ends, maybe I will write about it sometime @bulldog-joy ..
Aw, me its the 9th March 2020, so I know where you come from! I'm happy for you you can be reunited soon 🤗🎉

I'm finishing the comment with this:

“Patience is not the ability to wait. Patience is to be calm no matter what happens, constantly take action to turn it to positive growth opportunities, and have faith to believe that it will all work out in the end while you are waiting.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

Take care y'all , much Love!

That's a beautiful quote take care!

Thanks you too!

Gosh that is so sad to hear, why are you separated from your dog? And yeah, times are tough period, for some more than for others but knowing about the troubles of traveling with a dog I could relate. And no one should be without their loyal companions longer than necessary.

What a lovely thing to do. Hope Ed is reunited with his pups soon! 💚

A family needs their pets, and the pets their family 😌

OMG that is so sweet of you, I don't know what to say, I wasn't excepting this...

Thanks so much @bulldog-joy... I know my wife @lionmom will be touched by this even more, I can feel some tears coming ahead 😌

I got $100 for Charlie.

DUDE WTF!!!

iheart dogs. And if I can help the reuniting of your dogs, it would make me feel better. I feel sympathy for them, iheart dogs, "guilty!"

How much do you need in total? I'd like to put an article together like bulldog did. Gimme some facts.

Right now we're at 4000 usd. I just made the first down payment this morning for 1000 euros which is I dunno in usd and waiting for my bank to validate it

Last time we were there the conversion was about 11% so €1,000 is around 11 hundred USD.

Right now we're at 4000 usd

What do you mean by that? That's how much you've saved or that's how much you need? What's the total fee to get both of your dogs from SA to France?

4000 USD is the total fee, but there might be extra cost like getting them from Spain (driving there) and maybe a custom fee in BArcelona that we are trying to avoid. I did first down payment and the next one at the end of the month.

Dude, I dunno what to say

Don't trip. If they were cats you'd probably think I was a heartless asshole so let's just be glad they're not cats.

I crack myself up

I know what you do with cats 😁

I'd like to put an article together like bulldog did

Awww great to hear, one could get the feeling you're a

heartless asshole

when not reading between the lines ;)

I'll be on the look out for that post so I can share it at least. Glad that between all the, well rather superficial stuff swirling around the Hive there is the one or the other getting the point of sharing is caring.

No offense, I throw out my superficial stuff as well.

Happy for the doggies that they get the chance of being reunited with their pack...and happy for the whole family.

Thanks for the inspiration. Only thing that would've been cooler is if I thought of it first. Sometimes second place is comfortable. 😉

No need to say anything. You guys are welcome and this is just a little something. I hope Jacky and Charlie make it home safe and sound and anytime soon. 😊

Alright, this is it. After a year and a half of wait, I am doing the first down payment today... You have no idea, how I see what you are doing as a sign from the universe that everything will be ok. Thanks so much Anna, I am nearly choking writing this haha...

That is so great to hear!

🥳 ...Charlie, Jacky...pack your little bags🧸🦴.

Daddy's getting you home 🛫 ❤️.

Hahaha yea!!!

I also send my love to your departed Molly 😘

@bulldog-joy thank you very much for this post. Above all things it feels good to read of another love for their Amina friends and what they too where willing to go through to reunite with them. From day one of relocating I never for one second accepted to truly let them go and did all we cud to make sure when te came we wud be able to get them back. To see so much love and compassion from a community gets me pretty choked up and because of more than the material side of it all this very energy is bringing our furbabies home and closer to us day by day. We all look forward to having our family complete and being able to share it with all u beautiful souls! All the love and light in the world to you!!

Hi, thanks for your kind words but to me it was the least I could do 😌. Give your kiddos a hug and they need to prepare the welcome home party for their two siblings coming home soon...hopefully 😃. I'll follow you guys so I can't wait to read when your furbabies finally arrive. Be sure that we share more than just the love towards our dogs. All the best...à la prochain 😊.

You are a truly kind soul, thanks et merci beaucoup!!

their Amina friends

I think she means animal, the dyslexia is strong haha 😁

Lol, that's ok, we all have our typos ;). Thanks for all your comments too. And Molly will have a little paw over your two doggies once they sit in the plane. She will be their guardian angel. 🤗

HAhah just pulling her legs...

Thanks Molly, we counting the days now!
