Isn't it wonderful and a bit amusing that many people, both believers in Creationism and Evolution, don’t realize that the 100 different dog breeds we adore today were all crafted by human hands?
I've always found the history of dogs to be absolutely fascinating! It beautifully illustrates Genesis 1:28, where it says,
God blessed them, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."
Indeed, mankind embraced this divine guidance and went to work!
What many don’t know is that the incredible variety of dog breeds we see today emerged through the selective breeding done by humans, who, over thousands of years, sought out specific traits and purposes in our canine companions.
It all began around 130,000 years ago when early humans domesticated wolves from the Canis lupus familiaris family, descending from the majestic gray wolf, Canis lupus. Imagine, dogs were likely among the very first wild animals to become our loyal friends!
Early humans gravitated towards wolves that were less fearful and more willing to engage with them, ultimately leading to the emergence of domesticated dogs. As societies blossomed, humans began to breed dogs for specific tasks like herding livestock, hunting, guarding property, and even pulling sleds. This intentional breeding gave rise to a delightful tapestry of distinct breeds, each with unique appearances, temperaments, and skills.
Fast forward to today, and most modern dog breeds were developed within the last 300-400 years, as breeders focused on creating dogs that fit specific characteristics and looks. Isn’t it amazing how natural mutations and varying climates also contributed to these breeds adapting to their environments?
As our love for dogs continues to grow, so does our creativity! We’ve seen the rise of adorable designer dogs through purposeful cross-breeding, like Labradoodles, Puggles, and Cockapoos, which bring joy and charm to our homes.
In this ongoing adventure, humans have truly embraced their role as co-creators, flourishing in the spirit of stewardship over this beautiful earth.
Humans will continue creating as God has given them the capacity to act like him as he said in the scriptures that we are created in his own image.
Whether the Big Bang theory and the evolution of man stated by science is true or not, we still have some reasons to believe that we are created out of something by something.
With over 100 breeds of dogs available, humans are still coming up with more.
Let us continue creating. As it is said, “Ye are gods”—what a joyful and remarkable journey we’re on together!
I really miss Prestige and power. They died of bloat.

I loved the story, dogs are an important part of man's life, however in that eagerness to make those crosses, looking for the prettiest dog, the best breed, many end up rejecting those mongrels, those who perhaps do not stand out for not having a beautiful coat or being disabled for example. That is why we must continue to raise awareness, all dogs need to be respected, loved, they need a home.
I think I agree with you on this. In our efforts to create beautiful dogs through crossbreeding, unfortunate events have led to the emergence of deformed breeds, and even some that might be considered unattractive or fearful—pets that many people would not want.
Just as we, as humans, do not reject a child with disabilities, we should not turn away from these animals. It is not their fault that they have these conditions. We must show them love and care.
Thank you for bringing this important point to light. 👍👍
