Greetings Hive friends and especially to the Hive Pets community, this is my first post here (if I remember correctly) and I want to share with you a little story of what happened to our kitty. Her name is Skady and she has been with us for at least 2 years or a little more. Always active, playful and with lots and lots of energy. But about a month ago we noticed that her behavior was changing, she was getting quieter, in fact too quiet, she was sleeping a lot and not playing at all. She presented decay, lack of appetite, drowsiness, to the point where she was unconsciously doing her fecal activities without any movement.
It was at that moment when we decided to take her to the vet, performing tests which showed very low hemoglobin and hematocrit results, antibiotics were diagnosed for a few days but had no effect on her, so we decided to do other tests and it turned out that the hemoglobin and hematocrit values were even lower 😔 The vet's diagnosis was critical, announcing that she was in a terminal state.
Saludos amigos de Hive y en especial a la comunidad de Hive Pets, este es mi primer post acá (si mal no recuerdo) y quiero compartir con ustedes una pequeña historia de lo que le sucedió a nuestra gatita. Su nombre es Skady y tiene al menos unos 2 años o un poco más con nosotros. Siempre activa, juguetona y con muchísima energía. Pero hace un mes aproximadamente notamos que su comportamiento estaba cambiando, estaba más tranquila, de hecho demasiado tranquila, dormía mucho y no jugaba en lo absoluto. Presentó decaimiento, falta de apetito, somnolencia, hasta llegar al punto en el que hacía de forma inconsciente sus actividades fecales sin movimiento alguno.
Fue en ese momento cuando decidimos llevarla al veterinario, realizándole así análisis los cuales arrojaron resultados de hemoglobina y hematocritos muy bajos, diagnosticaron antibióticos por algunos días pero no hicieron efecto en ella, así que decidimos hacer otros análisis y resultó que los valores de hemoglobina y hematocritos estaban aún más bajos 😔 El diagnóstico del veterinario fue crítico, anunciandonos que estaba en estado terminal.
They were told that it was very difficult to recover her and that we had to admit her to a clinic to give her oxygen and then give her a blood transfusion to try to establish her hemoglobin values.... We talked to different veterinarians and they all told us that it was not necessary to do more for her, because of her "critical" state she was going to die soon.
The hospitalization in the clinic together with the oxygen supply and blood transfusion implied a very high economic cost to the point of being incomprehensible. With our spirits at the floor and with almost no hope of life, we were recommended another veterinarian, this time with a very different attention to all the previous ones. She told us that they were doing everything wrong and that in the first instance we should do all possible tests, ultrasounds, etc. to determine what was wrong and study what was causing our kitten.
Nos dijeron que era muy difícil recuperarla y que debíamos internarla en una clínica para suministrarle oxígeno y posteriormente hacerle una transfusión de sangre para tratar de establecer sus valores de hemoglobina... Hablamos con diferentes veterinarios y todos nos decían que no era necesario hacer más por ella, por su estado tan "crítico" iba a morir pronto.
La internación en clínica junto con el sumistro de oxígeno y transfusión de sangre implicaba un costo económico bastante elevado a tal punto de ser incomprensible. Estando con los ánimos por el piso y ya casi sin esperanzas de vida, nos recomendaron otra veterinaria, ésta vez con una atención muy diferente a todos los anteriores. Nos dijo que estuvieron haciendo todo mal y que en primera instancia debíamos hacerle todos los análisis posibles, ecografías, etc para poder determinar que era lo que tenía y estudiar lo que estaba causando en nuestra gatita.
We did all the possible tests that could exist, giving negative results in most of them except for one... Hemobartonella! It is a bacterium that is shed by the flea and depending on the immune system of the animal, it can be infected or not... Well our Skady did not have a very strong immune system.
This bacterium can be contagious in other animals, being the case of proximity of a cat with another that are close could affect the health status of the other and become contagious. We have another kitty who probably got it but we guess her immune system is much stronger to withstand it and not be affected.
Hicimos todos los análisis posibles que puedan existir, dando como resultado negativo la mayoría de ellos excepto uno... Hemobartonella! Se trata de una bacteria que arroja la pulga y dependiendo del sistema inmunológico del animal puede contagiarse o no... Bueno nuestra Skady no tenía un sistema inmune muy fuerte.
Esta bacteria puede ser contagiosa en otros animales, siendo el caso de cercanía de un gato con otro que estén cerca podría afectar el estado de salud del otro y contagiarse. Tenemos otra gatita que seguramente se contagió pero suponemos que su sistema inmunológico es mucho más fuerte como para soportarlo y no verse afectada.

She was diagnosed with antibiotics to control the disease as we were also told that there is no cure but control but long before buying her antibiotics our Skady was back to normal, she is the same again, energetic, very active and even has more appetite and an improvement in her appearance and behavior.
After so many consultations and diagnoses with different vets and after telling us that the cat was going to die and encouraging us to give her blood transfusion treatments and oxygen supplies which resulted in a lot of money, it was not even necessary. So... I've always had an idea of how things work in the world at large...
Medicine in all its aspects is a business and it's never going to stop it seems, they need more sick living things in order to bill and I'm sure this is what happened with our kitty. They were trying to get as much money as possible through treatments that were unnecessary, generating fear by mentioning her possible death. At least there are still honest people who save lives and care about animals... Something similar happens with people!
I think I went on a bit long but I thought it was interesting to share this here because it may help other people who are in similar situations. I send a hug to the whole community and I hope to come back to share other posts about our pets or interesting anecdotes. Happy day to all 😊☀️
Le diagnosticaron antibióticos para controlar la enfermedad ya que también nos indicaron que no tiene cura sino control pero muchísimo antes de comprar sus antibióticos nuestra Skady volvió a la normalidad, es la misma nuevamente, con energías, muy activa e incluso tiene más apetito y una mejora en su aspecto y comportamiento.
Después de tantas consultas y diagnósticos con diferentes veterinarios y después de decirnos que la gata iba a morir además de alentarnos a hacerle tratamientos de transfusión de sangre y suministros de oxígeno que resultaban en muchísimo dinero, ni siquiera hizo falta. Entonces... Siempre he tenido una idea de cómo funcionan las cosas en el mundo en general...
La medicina en todos sus aspectos es un negocio y no va a detenerse nunca al parecer, necesitan más seres vivos enfermos para poder facturar y estoy seguro de que esto fue lo que pasó con nuestra gatita. Estuvieron tratando de sacar todo el dinero posible a través de tratamientos que eran innecesarios, generando miedo mencionando su posible muerte. Al menos aún existen personas honestas que salvan vidas y les importan los animales... Pasa algo parecido con las personas!
Creo que me extendí un poco pero me pareció interesante compartir esto por acá ya que puede servir de ayuda para otras personas que estén en situaciones parecidas. Ha ha ha.... Fascinante esa historia de Skady, hermosa gatita por cierto... Ciertamente, el sistema inmunológico de los gatos tiene sus misterios (cuando menos para mi)... Pues su comportamiento ante cualquier agente externo suele bordear lo dramático... Yo tengo,,, ¡Bueno, ya ni sé cuantos tengo!.. Pero "fijos" son 6 gatos y "rotativos" deben ser otros 6... El caso es que a veces alguno de ellos muestra ese tipo de síntomas que has descrito aquí y uno suele alarmarse a mil y quinientas, pero sin embargo, hay que dejar que su mismo sistema reaccione, pues en los felinos es muy fuerte... y... Eso que tu dices es muy importante: "Hay mucho veterinario mercantil" por ahí, así que siempre hay que tener uno de mucha confianza (al igual que un mecánico y un abogado) je je je.... Hablando de otra cosa, caray ¡que bueno esto de #Hive!... Me he encontrado con una gran cantidad de gente que le gustan los gatos y las fotos... ¨¡Ya con esto me siento más normal!... :) Saludos a Skady y... a Freyja que por cierto tiene una cara de pocos amigos....brrrr.... je je je... Hola amigo @dimascastillo90. Como estas? sigue cuidando a tus gatos Skady y Freyja, las pulgas traen problemas aunque parezcan inofensivas, también creo que hay veterinarios que bailan por la plata pero quédate con ese honesto para cuando tengas que hacer alguna revisión a tus gatos. También tengo dos gatos y un perro que otras veces he traído a la comunidad de mascotas, me gustan mucho las mascotas son nuestras mejores amigas y también nuestro dolor de cabeza cuando se enferman, que bueno que tu gata se recuperó.
