Hello, Hive friends! Today I want to introduce you to Bella, my affectionate and pampered pet. She was adopted when she was just 20 days old, and her story is as moving as that of many furry friends out on the streets.
La Historia de Bella
Hace más de dos años, unas amigas y yo estábamos tras la captura de una perrita con un collar que la estaba lastimando. Queríamos atraparla para poder curar sus heridas y darle en adopción. Sin embargo, la asustada perrita parecía esconderse de nosotros, y todas nuestras incursiones fueron fallidas.
En una de esas ocasiones, encontramos, entre dos casas, a una perra que acababa de dar a luz a unos hermosos cachorros. Hablamos con los vecinos para que no la echaran de donde se encontraba y si podían ayudarnos a cuidar de ellos hasta que pudiéramos darles en adopción y esterilizar a su madre. Los vecinos estuvieron de acuerdo, pero esa misma tarde azotó una lluvia torrencial. Todas estábamos preocupadas por los cachorros y su madre. Entonces, dos chicas, a pesar del clima, se trasladaron en sus bicicletas y, gracias a su valentía, lograron salvar a los cachorros, que ya estaban mojados, y a su madre. Rápidamente les secaron e improvisaron un nido en un lugar seco hasta encontrarles un hogar.
Bella's Story
More than two years ago, some friends and I were trying to capture a dog with a collar that was hurting her. We wanted to catch her to heal her wounds and find her a home. However, the scared dog seemed to hide from us, and all our attempts were unsuccessful.
During one of those attempts, we found, between two houses, a dog that had just given birth to beautiful puppies. We spoke with the neighbors to ensure they wouldn’t chase her away and if they could help us care for them until we could find them homes and sterilize their mother. The neighbors agreed, but that same afternoon, a torrential rain hit. We were all worried about the puppies and their mother. Then, two girls, despite the weather, rode their bikes over and, thanks to their bravery, managed to save the puppies, who were already wet, and their mother. They quickly dried them off and improvised a nest in a dry spot until we could find them a place.

Así comenzamos a rotarnos para llevarles alimento y agua. Encontramos un patio donde resguardarla un tiempo. Sin embargo, algunos cachorros eran alérgicos a las picaduras de insectos, por lo que hubo que repartirlos entre nosotras para curarlos y cuidar de ellos. Así fue como Bella llegó a mi vida, con un temporal de por vida.
Con el paso de los días, algunos de los cachorros se dieron en adopción y otros quedaron a nuestro cuidado, convirtiéndose en parte de la familia.
Care and Adoption
Thus, we began to take turns bringing them food and water. We found a yard where we could shelter them for a while. However, some of the puppies were allergic to insect bites, so we had to split them among ourselves to care for them. That’s how Bella came into my life, with a temporary home that turned into a forever one.
As days went by, some of the puppies were adopted, and others remained under our care, becoming part of the family.

Ustedes se preguntarán... ¿y su mamá? Volvimos para esterilizarla y atenderla, pero nos encontramos con las teorías más aterradoras. Algunos vecinos decían que la mataron por correr detrás de un pollo en un patio, otros que un hombre la mató para comérsela. Todas ellas estaban de acuerdo en algo: la mamá de nuestros cachorros había muerto y no teníamos pruebas para demandar a un culpable. Todas nos sentimos mal e impotentes; solo nos quedó el alivio de haber salvado a sus hijos.
What About Their Mom?
You might be wondering... what about their mom? We returned to sterilize and care for her, but we encountered some horrifying theories. Some neighbors said she was killed for chasing a chicken in a yard, while others claimed a man killed her to eat her. They all agreed on one thing: the mother of our puppies was dead, and we had no evidence to hold anyone accountable. We all felt terrible and powerless; all we could do was find solace in having saved her pups.
