Saving Bennie and Bonnie

in Hive Pets2 years ago (edited)

Pets are ultimately humans' comfort zone. They give a kind of solace that we couldn't get from anything or even from anyone. Yes, we mingle with people but pets give a different vibe. For me, they understand me and accept me for who I can be.

I've been raising rabbits just for my comfort. I love their furry cheeks, long ears, and the way they leap. I even got addicted to their smell. They're not stinky well, of course, they are kind of very particular animals when it comes to their furs. Their hutch is also maintained clean.

I have raised already 15 rabbits.

But, some are already distributed to my friends who want to try raising rabbits. I choose very well to whom am I going to entrust my rabbits. I do not like just anybody because I'm afraid that some will take it for granted and serve my rabbits on their tables.

I have my favorite rabbit which I called "Honey". ![Screenshot_20220816-142126.png] I named her such because of the color of her fur. I love all of them but Honey is the one I always play with.

Not until she got at the right age to get pregnant. I never thought animals could be irresponsible too as I have witnessed with my pet. During her first pregnancy, she gave birth to two bunnies. But sadly, she is very reluctant in nursing her babies which leads to their loss. I was so sad and at the same time disappointed with Honey. She was never like my other rabbits, Snowy and Darky who are protective and very responsible. I just then thought that Homey probably is undergoing a phase in her life.

We were shocked when she gave birth that evening of August 11 to five healthy bunnies. I was so happy to see such a blessing. I was hoping this time Honey would be responsible for taking good care of her little ones. But I was mistaken. She did the same thing. She ignores them and she never goes near her babies. It leads to the fatal death of the three bunnies. As desperate as I am, I tried nursing the two remaining bunnies which I named, Bennie and Bonnie. I give them milk using a dropper. I thought I could save them. I did my best just to fill their empty stomach but they didn't survive.

I don't know what to do with Honey anymore. I don't know why is she like that. I hope the five of them go somewhere in heaven where babies like them deserve to leap and live as free bunnies.
