She should be dead by now... We're laughing and saying she looks like Borat - and that's just how we cope with it: Humor.
It's how we deal with the reality that our 14 year old goodest girl is leaving us soon (14 & a half actually) Is what she would probably say if she could talk. @dandays reckons she looks like she could speak English - I reckon he's right.
Not just best friend to me for nearly 15 years, but protector of small human child for nearly 12 years. Flow turned to absolute mush the moment I brought small human child home from the hospital & she has been by her side since. In nearly every photo I have of SHC, Flow is there too.
Dogs have a knowing, don't they? They just know stuff that we muggles don't pick up on. I think Flow knew. She knew I was getting ready to call the vet, she hadn't moved in two days. Almost as my hand was reaching for the cordless phone, she sprang up and practically poinged around the room -That's a sure sign she wants to go to the beach. Poinging.
It's sign she hasn't given me much of lately and I am extremely happy to oblige to her every whim at this stage. We went beach hopping this day - that's how much energy she had.
Beach one!
(Look away now if you're squeamish)
Really just lots of sniffing, not much walking. Notice how this beach has black sand? It's a place called Cornwallis. NZ has a few black sand beaches due to volcanic rock.
A rather nasty lump of cancer. This isn't even her biggest problem. Although this has grown fast and looks horrible (It is) her worst is terrible arthritis in her spine which causes inflammation to press on her nerves, making it difficult to walk. It must be SO painful - all of it!
But just around the corner is this beach - no black sand. Beach two
She just stood there, for a long time. Just looking, at the beautiful ocean I guess - taking stock. I think she'll surely miss this place. The funny thing is, this beach isn't always this beautiful. Sometimes it is on a good day - today was a good day.
the serendipitous thing was bumping in to a woman about to get in to her kayak. The lady noticed the huge bump on Flow's rear end and we got talking about how it's her last days etc. The lady mentioned seeing a family at the beach with their dog one day wrapped in a blanket, they were singing songs, playing the guitar etc and she wondered what they were doing. Then the VET van pulled up to the beach - they had the dog put to sleep there on the beach.
I had never thought about doing something like that. What a way to go! I think Flow would like that.

Anyway I have spoken for too long..
But why does she look like Borat? You ask.
Well we have stairs at our house, and a geriatric dog with back legs giving out and stairs don't go well. So out comes the LYCRA!!!! Stretchy pants for dogs - it helps us get her down the stairs by supporting her rear end. This is the best photo I could get as it is absolute chaos - especially when we are peeing ourselves laughing at how much she looks like Borat. The lime green really becomes her.

Even if nobody reads this, it is therapeutic none the less. And if you have a post about your animal - please post below. I love seeing happy animals!
(Family of 14 years) Old photo!
I am sure going to miss this dog <3
I read it, I must be nobody.
Pains me to read it. That's not a lie. I can watch all the husbands killing their wives or mistresses and war coverage and stuff but that guitar bit about broke me.
Flow is awesome, I'm glad you guys found each other. You have a beautiful family.
Lost it when the lady mentioned the guitar too. Thanks!!
