Hello, fur parents! I'm back with my second post. As I mentioned before in my blog, our dog Missy recently had five fur babies, and now our Lyka is a fur mommy to six adorable puppies! I’m excited to share more about them because they are incredibly cute and resemble their mother.
On the night of February 1, Lyka showed signs of discomfort as she felt the puppies were about to be born. She howled for help at dawn, which woke me up. It was as if she was calling out for assistance. When I approached her, her eyes lit up at the sight of me. I tried to console her by touching her abdomen and easing her pain. As I stroked her belly, she became quiet and seemed to feel more at ease.
I offered her some water, but she refused to drink from a bowl. However, when I put water on my hands, she licked it up. She was very clingy, and while I wanted to stay by her side, I was so sleepy since it was early morning, and I had to work the next day. I made sure she was safe and comfortable before leaving her side. I also offered her milk, but she still howled when I left. After a while, though, I couldn’t hear her cries anymore, allowing me to sleep peacefully.
In the morning, I checked on her. She hadn’t given birth yet, but at 10:00 AM, one puppy finally arrived! We were so happy. The puppies were born every 30 minutes, and I initially thought there would only be five. However, after a couple of hours, I came back to find that there were six puppies! I’m so proud of her. While she was in labor, she was fragile and always seeking attention, unlike Missy, who was very quiet during her labor with five puppies. Lyka was the attention seeker and cried like a baby while giving birth.
Lyka was very tired after giving birth and lay down all day. Only one puppy came to her for milk, while the others were on the other side of the cage, sleeping.
Once mother dogs start having puppies, they become very protective and always want their babies close by.
Now it's been a month, and the puppies have grown quite big. They’ve started to walk and are very noisy. They’ll poop and pee anywhere, which adds to the work, but they are so adorable! When I put them inside the cage, they become incredibly noisy because they want to roam around and don’t want to stay inside. Just last night,
I heard one puppy crying, and I was worried that he might be stuck. I went out to check and found that he saw his siblings outside but was the only one left inside the cage. He wanted to join them, so I carried him out. After that, all the puppies ran toward me and started to nibble at my feet!
You might be wondering why the puppies are tiny while their mother is large. This is because the father of the puppies, or the sire, is not a husky; he is a Shih Tzu Terrier. The sire is small, whereas the dam is big.
This is Blue-blue, the male parent of the puppies. We were laughing because the sire doesn't seem to like the puppies and we think he is not yet ready to be a parent. He prefers to keep to himself in the corner, just watching rather than mingling with the puppies. Although he doesn't particularly enjoy being a father, he is a very sweet dog. Whenever I come home, he runs towards me, makes a sound that shows he missed me, jumps up on his hind legs, and excitedly wags his tail.
