Why Don't You Give It Away?

For the past week, I’ve been getting questions from acquaintances and other distant relatives about why we decided to keep Shiro. Even my mom’s friend has been wondering too. I asked the question the first time too because of my worries of potential rabies and such but that was proven wrong and the cat is quite sociable now. His condition is certainly improving and our relationship with Shiro too. In fact, these days he gets even closer to us and he no longer goes outside or howling a lot. Whenever I upload his picture, I get tired of answering why he’s still around.

We decided to keep him around simply because we’ve grown attached to it and he’s pretty sociable. He’s not as scary as he used to or the first time I met him. Even when I hold his hand, he’s not showing his claws anymore and basically fine with being touched and petted as opposed to before. It’s a nice progress and I don’t even want to leave too long because He has been a good companion. It’s even more when I decided to give it catnip and it was fun to see him getting high. It has been quite a rewarding experience for me and my mom is also fine with touching him again.

As you see above, he’s getting closer and let me take pictures that are closer than before. He’s not annoyed or moves a lot and when I am on my laptop or when my mom is around, he would lay down and sleep. He’s also starting to sleep in my bed and also doesn’t resist anymore when I touch his cheeks. I haven’t taken him for a walk due to me being sick but since now I am recovering, I plan on taking him for walks.

A funny story lately is that he sort of nibbles Reno and my mom’s feet for no reason. I had a good laugh when I saw he’s doing that and my mom was taken aback. She was afraid that he might hurt her but it’s not the case. He was just nibbling and then falling back to sleep after doing that. Thankfully, he never does that to me cause I find that sort of thing annoying.

Hi @macchiata! What great news that you are keeping Shiro and that you have given him time to make amends for what he did. I'm so glad and touched by your pictures, it provokes me to pamper him.

yeah! he's now cuddlier than before 😊

He looks like he needs a bath. 😸

haha yes! it's been 3 weeks now, and going to bring him this weekend for grooming. He gets dirty soo easily.

Thinking of a dirty stinky cat brought me back to the second half of the 90s. Haha!

Aww. I think keeping him ain't a bad idea at all. Looks so adorable and sweet.

He's that adorable actually 😁

How Shiro nibbles on your mom's feet is fun😅. It's those silly moments that makes having pets so special and memorable. Keep up the good work with him there is more improvement to come from Shiro. I hope you are recovering fine and enjoy your time with Shiro!

right? it's what keeps us even more attached to him. We certainly hope for even more awesome days with him.

Well, I understood your concern for your mom, but I knew deep down that poor Shiro wasn't to blame, he was just put under a lot of stress, poor thing 😓.

My kitty Minie was also isolated before, but little by little she started to get closer to us and now she takes our beds and all the furnitures. Now that I have a puppy again I understand why many people prefer cats, they really are very docile and calm, instead puppies seem to have inexhaustible energy and that would be a lot for your mom, for example 😅.

I'm glad that already Shiro is getting more adjusted to you @macchiata, cheers, by the way loved all the pictures of shiro sleeping 😅🥰.

hahaha dogs is energetic and I think I'd like them. I think they would encourage me to be more adventurous than when I have cats. All shiro does these days is sleep and I get carried away too haha. Too much nap isn't great for my productivity 🤣

Hahahaha that's true, they sleep a lot and we want to interact with them and sometimes they don't want to because they are very independent. Puppies yes, they want you to play with them all the time, for you it's definitely better a puppy, you should adopt a one Mac, it would help you a lot in many things and you take it on a trip 👏, but for your mom is better Shiro 😅😅😅.

Greetings @macchiata 🤗💞

The more a pet spends its time with us, the harder it is to let it go. Hehe. Giving a pet a name also makes the bond, I think.

We also recently got a pet kitten and she likes to come to my youngest son u in the early hours of the morning just to lick his face and ears, even ruffle his hair. 😸 Such a sweetheart she is. ❤️

Oh yeah, speaking about names, he didn't have a name until we adopted him. It took a bit of time before he eventually understand that Shiro is his name and would come when we call him. My mom and I wondered how come he's nameless despite being a year old cat. What's your kitten name? I think it's nice when you adopted from kitten, they're much easier to train and get attached to you quicker than a young-adult cat.

She's 5 months old and we got her from one of my friends who has 12 cats in her apartment. LOL. We planned on this adoption even before the kittens were born but we had to wait until she was weaned from her momma cat. Thankfully she did not have a hard time adjusting to our home.

The name was subjected to a bit of a debate coz the kids wanted to name her "Fluffy" and while I thought it was too generic I suggested Matilda and Wednesday (I was almost excommunicated, LOL). Then I said, why not "Tori"? They accepted provided that Fluffy is still the first name. She's now called Fluffy Tori, carrying our surname too. 😻

I am not even a cat person but this guy looks so cute in these close ups. Didn't hear the backstory though. Do you have a link for me to a previous article about Shiro? Cheers!

A long story short, he hurt my mom after he got lost outside. My mom was badly injured as you can see in this post https://peakd.com/hive-196708/@macchiata/getting-badly-bitten-by-cat and it took a bit of time for me to train him and also make sure everyone is friendly again with him because even when I go outside, people are calling him rude or mean cat as he also bit several of my neighbors.

Wow! that's pretty extreme. Very kind of you and your mom that you gave him a second chance. Most people probably wouldn't do that.

That took a bit of time for us to socialize the cat but we ended up keeping him😊

Bom trabalho!
Great job!

I think pets receive and respond to the energy we give them, if they receive love and respect that is what they will give you. Very beautiful your cat, I'm glad you gave him a home. 🐈❤️

Agreed! I think part of that and also getting familiarized with the environment. Thankfully he's now well-enough to know his environment 😊

I am glad to hear that her relationship with Shiro is improving at the same time I feel that I have become very fond of this case and Shiro. I just hope they can be completely fine soon.

He looks so much more relaxed now, in a little while they will even be able to give him a bath, I can't wait for that to happen. Yey!

Cheers and best of luck

I hope so, it's been a month since the case and both are slowly getting better too. And yes! it's time for another grooming and bath 🤣 he likes to explore dusty places at our house and we rarely have case with cat being that dirty. I guess it's because he has longer fur and also it's his color. My previous cat was completely dark and rarely gets that dirty despite having even longer fur.
