Greetings, friends of #Hive and Wonderful members of #Hivepets community
I'd like to share a short story with you about my encounter with a cat I named "Angel." This happened a little while ago. But before I get into the story, I want to talk about something I've noticed, especially in Africa where I'm from. Why do some people seem scared of cats and even call them witches? It's a strange belief, isn't it?
So, here's what happened. I was visiting a friend at her shop, just having a chat, when I heard the cries of a kitten. I know that sound well because I have a cat of my own. The crying went on for a while, and I started feeling uncomfortable. I asked my friend where the cries were coming from, and she told me it was from the shop next door. I had to check it out.
I went to the shop and asked the lady there what was going on with the cat cries. She told me she wanted to get rid of the cat because she believed it was a witch. I was shocked and asked her why she got a cat in the first place if she thought it was a witch. She explained that her husband had bought it for their kids while she was away, and she came back to find this cat in her house, and she wanted it gone, even if it meant hurting or abandoning it, she said she wants to throw it into a gutter close to her shop that she doesn't care what happens to it.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I decided to go into the shop to search for the cat the lady was still trying to find it to get rid of it,out of fear the cat went under hiding. I went into the shop and found the cat hiding under a shelf. It took some effort, but I managed to get her to come out. When I held her, she stopped being scared and calmed down. She must have sensed that I wouldn't harm her. She was such a beautiful and innocent cat that I was almost moved to tears, but I held back my emotions.
I asked the lady if she had given the cat a name, and she hadn't. So, I named her "Angel" right there. I carried Angel to my friend's shop, cradling her, and she stopped crying. She even fell asleep in my arms. It was amazing how quickly she trusted me.
While I was with the lady, I tried to explain that it's not fair to judge an innocent animal like this. I told her that Angel was crying because she felt unwelcome. As we talked, her kids came in, crying too, that they couldn't find the cat at home, they didn't know their mum carried the cat from the house to get rid of it, surprisingly they saw the cat in the shop, and I told them what their mum was about doing, they begged their mom not to hurt the cat.
After a lot of talking, the lady agreed to let the kids have Angel back. I taught them how to take care of her, and they were happy with the name I had given her. The hardest part was saying goodbye to Angel; she held onto me so tightly that I couldn't believe the strength in such a small kitten. I even shed a tear.
Despite our short time together, I had to let her go. I asked the family to promise to take good care of her, and they assured me they would. A few weeks later, I checked on them, and Angel was doing great.
This story reminds us that cats, and all animals, shouldn't be feared or labeled as witches. They're living creatures that deserve love and kindness. Thanks for reading.
