Today I want to share with you the difficult experience of my cat Negro's recovery after his second castration. The first 7 days were very difficult for everyone. Negro has always been a little delicate in health, and this operation was very hard for him. Since he was little he has suffered from fever, difficulty breathing, runny nose, and since he is very restless and goes out of the house a lot, he always comes home with new wounds and I, his human mother, must go out to help him and try to heal him.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes la difícil experiencia de lo que ha sido la recuperación de mi gato Negro luego de su segunda castración, los primeros 7 días fueron días muy difíciles para todos, Negro siempre ha sido un poco delicado de salud, y esta operación para él fue algo muy fuerte, desde chiquito ha sufrido de fiebre, dificultad para respirar, moqueadera, y como es muy inquieto y sale mucho fuera de casa, siempre llega con heridas nuevas y yo su mamá humana debo salir a socorrerlo e intentar sanarlo
After waking up from the anesthesia he was very spoiled, he let me hold him and curl up in my arms. After several hours, I imagine that the pain became more intense, our torture began. My black boy began to become aggressive, he almost didn't let us touch him and in desperation he ran away. No matter how hard we tried to hold him back, he attacked us, scratched us and bit us. It was a pretty tough fight. We tried to put him in the basket to calm him down and that was impossible. I imagine that because of the pain he felt, he became more aggressive. My daughters and I tried by all means to keep him at home and we couldn't do it.
It was a whole day desperate trying to locate him, we called him in the yard, we asked the neighbors, we put him in our WhatsApp statuses, we kept that hope that Negro would return home, I was very worried since he was still sleepy from the anesthesia, apart from the fact that he ran the risk of his wound getting infected, that night I hardly slept and it was right at five in the morning when Negro appeared again, I cried seeing him, he came all soaked since it was raining, shivering from the cold and very hungry, inevitably I had to give him his food, after a few seconds he vomited, he had already come back a little thin and this worried me even more, they didn't retain anything of what he ate.
Luego de despertar de la anestesia estuvo muy consentido, se dejaba cargar y se acurrucaba entre mis brazos, luego de varias horas, imagino que se le presentó el dolor más fuerte, comenzó nuestra tortura, mi negro comenzó a ponerse agresivo, casi no dejaba que lo tocáramos y desesperado se escapó, por más que tratamos de retenerlo nos atacaba nos rasguñaba y nos mordía, fue una lucha bastante fuerte tratamos de meterlo en la cesta para calmarlo y eso fue imposible, imagino que por el dolor que sentía lo hacía más agresivo, mis hijas y yo intentamos por todos los medios retenerlo en casa y no lo pudimos lograr.
Fue todo un día desesperadas intentando localizarlo , lo llamábamos por el patio le preguntamos a los vecinos, lo colocamos en nuestros estados de WhatsApp, manteníamos esa esperanza de que negro regresara a casa, me preocupaba muchísimo ya que él todavía andaba adormecido por la anestesia, aparte de qué corría el riesgo de que se le infectara su herida , esa noche casi no dormí y fue justo a las cinco de la mañana cuando el negro volvió a aparecer, lloré al verlo, venía todo empapado ya que estaba lloviendo, temblando de frío y con mucha hambre, inevitablemente tuve que darle su alimento, luego de unos segundos vomitó, ya había regresado un poco delgado y esto me preocupaba aún más, no retenían nada de lo que comía.
He spent the whole day vomiting, he didn't drink water, I was afraid he would get dehydrated. I tried to contact the vet and she didn't answer me. Negro asked me for food, he seemed desperate for hunger, but he would vomit everything I gave him. I made milk for him and he would vomit it. I searched the Internet and for information and it said that they should only drink liquid after the operation, so I tried not to give him so much food but he is used to eating food and he asked me desperately. It was very difficult to refuse. I tried to give him very little but he would still vomit it.
I thought that his discomfort was due to the fact that he might have eaten something strange when he escaped, but that wasn't the case. He was dying of hunger, in a lot of pain. We would carry him and he would complain a lot and roar at us, but it was like the crying of babies, the way he roared was different, his pain was noticeable. I called the vet again until she finally answered me. It was already the third day of his operation and he had lost a lot of weight.
I told the doctor what was happening, she told me that vomiting is a reaction to the anesthesia and that he might be like that for a few more hours, she prescribed him some medicine, but it was already late and I couldn't go out to buy it, that night I had to make him homemade medicine, between my daughters and I we struggled with him to be able to give him the medicine.
This is quite difficult since he is very strong, I held his legs tightly and my daughters opened his mouth as they could to put the medicine in, they bit him, ha ha, but we managed to give him his medicine, this helped him relieve his pain little by little, he spent many hours asleep, he let himself be held and didn't complain so much, but he still kept vomiting everything he tried.
By order of the doctor, on the fourth day I kept him fasting until after noon. It was a rather difficult task since he was desperately asking for food, but we all found a way to entertain him. He was given the medication and I kept him on a liquid diet for that day and on day 5, this diet was sardines, ground beef broth, and milk. To our delight, every time he was given some liquid he would sustain himself and sleep for several hours.
Todo ese día se la pasó vomitando, no tomaba agua, tenía miedo a que se deshidratara, intenté comunicarme con la Veterinaria y no me respondió, Negro me pedía comida, se mostraba desesperado de hambre, pero todo lo que le daba lo vomitaba, le hacía leche y lo vomitaba, busqué en Internet e información y decía que ellos debían tomar solo líquido luego de la operación, así que traté de no darle tanto alimento pero el está acostumbrado a comer alimento y me lo pedía de una forma desesperada, era muy difícil negarse, trataba de darle muy poco pero igual lo vomitaba.
Pensé que su malestar se debía a que pudo haber comido algo extraño en su escape, pero no fue así, él venía muerto de hambre, con mucho dolor, lo cargábamos y se quejaba muchísimo y nos rugía, pero es cómo el llanto de los bebés, la forma de rugir era diferente, se le notaba su dolor, llamé a la Veterinaria nuevamente hasta que por fin me contestó, ya está el tercer día de su operación y había perdido bastante peso.
Le conté a la doctora lo que pasaba, ella me contó que el vómito es una reacción de la anestesia y qué tal vez estaría algunas horas más así, le recetó unos medicamentos, pero ya era tarde y no pude salir a comprarlos, esa noche tuve que hacerle medicamentos caseros, entre mis hijas y yo batallábamos con él para poder darle los medicamentos.
Esto es bastante difícil ya que él tiene mucha fuerza, yo le agarraba fuertemente sus patas y mis hijas le abrían la boca como podían para colocarle el medicamento, salieron mordidas, ja ja, Pero lográbamos darle sus medicinas, esto lo ayudó a aliviar su dolor poco a poco, pasaba muchas horas dormido , se dejaba cargar y no se quejaba tanto, pero aún seguía vomitando todo lo que probaba.
Por órdenes de la Dra. el cuarto día lo mantuve en ayuna hasta después del mediodía, fue una tarea bastante difícil ya que pedía alimento desesperado, pero entre todos buscamos la manera de entretenerlo, se le colocó el medicamento y le mantuve la dieta de líquidos por ese día y el día 5, esta dieta fue desardinas, caldo de carne molida, leche, para alegría nuestra cada vez que se le daba algo de líquido se sustentaba y podía dormir por varias horas.
On the sixth day I started giving him a little food again, I tried to put a small amount in his bowl because he was eating very desperately. We kept watching him and he was not vomiting anymore. He was calm that whole day. On the seventh day he went away for a few hours in the early morning and when he came back desperately he came to eat. There he vomited again but only that time. The rest of the day he had a great time.
From day 8 he started to retain food, his hunger is uncontrollable, he has eaten everything, vegetables, fruits, sweets, foods he had never tried before, ha ha, the operation made him very hungry.
Para el sexto día comencé a darle nuevamente un poco de alimento, trataba de colocarle poca cantidad en su tasa ya que él comía muy desesperado, lo fuimos observando y ya no vomitaba, todo ese día estuvo tranquilo, para el día siete se perdió algunas horas en la madrugada y cuando regresó llegó desesperado a comer, allí volvió nuevamente a vomitar pero sólo esa vez el resto del día la pasó muy bien.
A partir del día 8 comenzó a retener los alimentos, el hambre que le da es algo incontrolable, ha comido de todo, verduras, frutas, chucherías, comidas que jamás había probado, ja ja, la operación le despertó un hambre feroz.
Friends, these sacrifices are worth going through. The magic of castration occurs almost immediately after the operation. Negro began to change his behavior completely. Since he came back from the operation, he no longer fights with his brother, Tesoro. He no longer pees everywhere. I have seen him urinate sitting down and cover his urine. He never did that before. He hardly ever leaves the house. Some nights he only goes away for a few minutes, but only a few minutes.
We put a collar with a bell on him only on the days he was sick. This helped us to know when he would arrive. Before the castration, Negro had an almost fixed schedule. Every day he would leave at nine at night and return between 3 and 5 in the morning. If he really came back. Nowadays, he no longer does that. He sleeps all night. He asks me for food all the time and continues to eat everything I give him. He no longer chases the cat or calls out. It should be noted that the day I took him to be neutered, he was in heat.
Amigos estos sacrificios valen la pena pasarlos, la magia de la castración ocurre casi de inmediato luego de la operación, negro comenzó a cambiar su comportamiento rotundamente, desde que llegó de la operación ya no pelea con su hermano Tesoro, ya no se hace pis por todos lados, lo he visto orinar sentado, y tapa su orine, eso no lo hacía antes, casi no sale de casa, algunas noches se pierde solo algunos minutos, pero sólo unos minutos.
Le colocamos un collar con cascabel sólo los días que estuvo enfermo, esto nos ayudaba a saber en el momento que llegaba, antes de la castración negro tenía un horario casi fijo, todos los días se iba a las nueve de la noche y regresaba entre las 3 y 5 de la mañana, si de verdad regresaba, en la actualidad ya no hace eso, toda la noche duerme, me pide comida a cada rato, y sigue comiendo todo lo que le doy, ya no persigue a la gata, ni tampoco hace llamados, cabe resaltar que el día que lo llevé a castrar estaba en celo.
