A Furry Kind of Love

This is my baby, JD. He’s 12 years old—I know, he’s old, but he’ll always be my baby. If you’ve met him, you know he’s full of energy and always happy to greet a visitor. The first time I saw him, he was already jumping on me and excited for me to carry him. He would lick my face and play-bite my feet when I walked. I instantly fell in love with this boy. I mean, who wouldn’t?

He’s very sweet and clingy. He always comes to my side when I’m in bed and cuddles with me until we both fall asleep. He loves to play, but sometimes he likes to be alone— I like to think of him as an introvert, just like me. He doesn’t like taking baths and hates water, but he’s always happier afterward. Food really makes him giggle; he’s a true foodie doggo! And when he's done enjoying treats, he’s ready for his next adventure. He definitely knows when he sees his diaper and shirt, and he gets so excited. He’ll jump, run, and sometimes bark as if he’s saying, 'Put them on me now, let’s go!' One thing I love doing with him is going on road trips. He loves it when the windows are down, and he puts his head out while the sun and air touch his skin.

It’s a different kind of love that no one can explain. It makes me sad every time I leave the house, and I always look forward to going home because I know he’s waiting for me. He keeps me sane, safe, and makes me feel loved. My sadness and stress suddenly disappear when I hug him. I always talk to him, too. I tell him that I love him and that he should stay healthy so we can spend more years together. My life became so much happier when I met him, and I can’t imagine life now without him. Oh, I’m not ready for that part, and I will never be.
