Adoption Festival held last Sunday

Our four-legged furry friends were the main protagonists at the gathering that took place two days ago. It was a lovely Sunday, the sun also contributed to the beautiful atmosphere, but these furry ones made the day and the whole weekend even more beautiful. It was a festival for the adoption of dogs (and cats) held in the park of our small town.

DSC_4462.JPG

There were so many things going around this weekend, from concerts I went to listen to, to my gig, lessons, and rehearsals that I didnt even know this VI Festival for Adoption will be held. Thanks to my son who took a walk that Sunday morning (ok, it was maybe already close to noon) and he informed me that this event is on. I was happy to hear that, as we visited the previous years too these gatherings.

DSC_4460.JPG

This park is close to our home, so after learning what is going on in there I had it clear: I will be there. I was already putting my shoes on, grabbing the camera and saying goodbye to my boys. A cat person on a dog festival looking for giving some cuddles to these beauties. Actually, I love both dogs and cats, we have always had them. But as I don't have any now, these opportunities can not be missed.

DSC_4513.JPG

Of course, there were those sweethearts that were very glad to receive some cuddles and gave me back some licking. Oh, also the lens of the camera had a close encounter with one tongue, but I cleared it later. Hopefully without leaving some scratches. And some doggies didn't want to pose for the camera or to let themselves be petted. But they have their personality we have to respect.

DSC_4509.JPG

This white one was very cute and curious. He approached me actually. That black buttons (eyes and snout) are gorgeous on that white background of his hair.

DSC_4507.JPG

The small brown with curly hair was sooooooo soft, like a soft toy. I cuddled him but he was jumping and running around and didn't want to pose for a nice shot. Only when his owner talked to him he stopped and listened to her. This photo was born then. Better, impossible with this one :)

DSC_4481.JPG

Seems that the bigger ones like to behave well and listen to the owners when they ask them to sit. This happened with the following ones, they immediately obeyed when were requested to sit but I couldn't catch them looking at me. They had more important things to observe, other dogs!

DSC_4484.JPG

DSC_4476.JPG

And there were indeed many dogs. The associations for animal protection brought their dogs and had a procession. What is the aim of these festivals, you may ask? It is to provide a new home to dogs and cats that live in shelters and foster homes. To help them find a loving family that can care for them. Also to help those associations, that came from several towns to gather funds for food, shelter, medicine, and medical care for the animals. In this photo, we see one of those associations, Somos Gos, that had several greyhounds for adoption. I am not sure from where they have rescued them.

The organizations and associations had their stands where you could buy some products they were selling. Accessories for your pets, for your home, decorative pillows, bags, and cups.

DSC_4471.JPG

Some were selling knitted scarves, hats, bracelets and earrings. Homemade jam, sweets, honey, decorative objects or key rings. Anything you would buy would go to the fund for the animals.

DSC_4487.JPG

Stuff for cat lovers could be found too :)) Cats rule everything around me! Anyone who can recognize itself in this phrase?

DSC_4479.JPG

DSC_4516.JPG

This stand had interesting things, I liked these pillowcases and rag bags. I'm sure that the intention of these volunteer associations is good. Rescue, take care of the animals and adopt. But they can not handle too many dogs and cats, they always need some help. During the last editions of this festival, there were more than fifty dogs and cats have found new homes. This Sunday, the most emotional moment was the parade of homeless dogs, in which the story of each one of them was told. All those animals hope to find a new family and receive some more love.

DSC_4467.JPG

Apart from these stands, the Festival orginazed a beauty contest for mongrel dogs. The participation was large, with nearly 40 entries and it was the record until now. The winners got some rewards in form of food for dogs and cats and accessories for them. After the contest, there was a live music event, featuring a new band and a dance studio which gave a small performance.

We should not forget to mention the fact that there are many people who abuse and abandon their pets. All these associations for the protection of those animals are doing a great job, but in the first hand, domestic animals should not be abandoned or abused. When we adopt or buy an animal we should take responsibility for them.

As I mentioned, at the moment I don't have any pets, but maybe it would change one day. I am more than sure I would not reject the option to adopt one of these animals from the shelters, but there is always a risk that the dog or the cat would not adapt to you. Yes, with patience and a lot of love yes, however, there are cases when the dogs were abused and they stay scared for a long time after then, even in the new home. I met one of those families who adopted and they had a long time before the dogs started to trust them. After all, it was a success.

So, what you would do? Would you adopt a pet from a shelter? Would you be ready to give some extra love to those animals that need it? If not, why not? If you like, I would gladly read your opinion in the comment section of this post!

The cat-stand with all the dogs around... Too Funny mrs MP 😂

It was funny indeed, and cute! Imagine me seeing something cat-related there 😍
Though, cats and dogs can get well, very well :)) proven many times!

Though, cats and dogs can get well, very well :)) proven many times!

True, many tiktok like short vids that are now in FB as well, show that :) Cats and Birds can go well together as well. N ot sure about cats and mice.

We always had at least one dog and a few cats. Not now, of course. But my parents still continue with the same tradition

I think the most diversified home zoo we had at the same time consisted of a dog, several cats, a parakeet, a turtle, and some fish... and they all did well together.

Well, I had a duck too (my "personal" duck, not those that were kept with other ducks and chickens)

Cats and mice: that would be interesting to see how they manage their love 😂

maybe too much love will kill the mouse 😂

WOW, that is a whole diverse farm you had at home. A personal Duck? You Queen, Duck Slave? LOLOLOLOL

no slavery or queenery 🙃

Loving this initiave from the foundations as indeed this is an extra good way to create some awareness for these rascals. And what cool dogs were there that day!

Regarding the shelter dogs, I am all pro! If you ask me not every dog is suitable for you as you have to look a bit on how you life is tuned in and look at it spacewise. But I would say spend some time with a dog from the shelter and see if it clicks and if this dog accepts you as a 'boss'.

I had one shelter dog before who was literally the coolest dog ever. I went to the shelter where there were atleast 40 dogs running around, and this one came and sat next to me. I was sold.!

This dog I have now is also a 'second-hand' dog, which was up for adoption because his bosses wanted to get rid of him. The household there was too busy and he turned into an aggresive jumpy animal. While here where everything is calm, he is the most sweet and calm dog there is.

That is what I mean with you have to check if the situation and animals fits and suits you. But once you know how that is, there is literally no better friends than shelter rescues if you ask me!

Hey dear @karinxxl

I know you have dogs (or a dog) but didn't know he is a second-hand dog as you called it hehehe. How nice!

These initiatives are important, I agree with you. I believe that many of those souls that have been rescued found a loving family or a person to care for them. Unfortunately, there are some countries that don't really take care of this thing so there are stray dogs living on the streets. Fortunately, I have never seen here in Spain a stray dog in the street. Maybe it is the case just in our place. They are stray cats, but as well they have a place, usually in an abandoned plot or similar where the volunteers take care of them bringing food, building small improvised shelters and taking them to the vet to be neutered. All the dogs I see are with their owners, I have never seen an abandoned one on the streets.

Also, you are right that you have to be the right match for the dog. Also, your style of living should fit the needs of the dog. If a generally inactive person adopts a dog that needs a lot of walk and activity, maybe it would not be a great match. If the dog changes the behaviour of the new owner, then it would be great :D

The case I have seen in that family I know made me think if it is a good option... maybe they didn't have an opportunity to meet well the dog before the adoption. It is an absolutely scared dog that for months barked very loudly to everyone, just not the mother in that family. Of course, there are many many more cases where the adoption went very well :))

Thank you so much for your opinion and your great comment 🙌 🐕

So many doggies and so pretty!
Some of them were just running around freely?

But.. will you have a separate post full of cats? :P

We always had rescued cats, or cats that just came to us on their own and stayed or kittens from someone who had them and was looking for a new home.
You should get one :D Or two....

Yes, so many dogies and I know you would prefer to see some cats lol :D

But the cats were not there, there was just a board with the photos of the cats that are for adoption and basic information about them. (I didn't take a photo of that board 🤦‍♀) so, unfortunately, no separate post about the rescued cats (unless I go a search for them)

Uhm, yes, some of the dogs were without the leash, but the majority were with. There were dogs with their regular owners that came to support and take part in the beauty competition, also dogs that are in foster homes and those that were with the animal shelter associations. A mix of many dogs but they all behaved very well :))

Cats. We have always had them too, that came in the same form as you say. Or just came and stayed, or got them as kittens from someone, or children of our cats and so on.
I know, I wish I could have one or two, or more :D
but seeing our lifestyle right now I know I would not be a good mom for a cat...

Cheeky.. they knew if if they advertise cats more people will come :p

(8 days late? cannot be! :o)

Yes, you found the right answer :) If cats, the park could not receive so many people 😇

8 days or 6, seems that it can be 😑

we need some extra pair of hands hahahaha 😂😂😂

ymostly dogs... but then... cats rule :D

!CATtip 10 CAT

looks like a fun gathering...

I'd love to adopt a cat... many cats... but i guess the circumstances don't allow for that right now.

sent successfullyyour tip of 10 CAT towards @mipiano was

mostly dogs, yeah, but you see, cats rule :)))

Oh, I suppose you would like to adopt many cats. They would live like in heaven with you 😅 😺

and thanks for the cat tip 😊

Tell me the formula to go to these events and not come home with 5 puppies!😂
I always support adoption instead of buying, there are so many dogs that need our affection and ask for nothing more than a roof over their heads, food and love.
Here in Argentina we also have these events in the squares, it is very helpful for the shelters that already have countless expenses to maintain the place.
I must confess that I stopped at your publication because the little dog in the cover photo looks just like my Tiana.❤️

Great read! Defo adopt!
Here in the UK the shelters really try to match potential owners with the dog, so you minimise the risk of problems, but you can't always avoid it.

I've been bitten by a rescue I tried to match with Holly, who is also a rescue dog, she was a stray.
They didn't get on at all and I was too quick with them to get along..
I takes tiiiiime and effort! They are scarred souls that need love and patience.

Most people don't want to spend that time and rather buy a puppy, only to find out, that they didn't do their research what is involved in dog or cat ownership.

Lockdown has a lot to answer for with all those abandoned dogs and cats that people bought just like a toy or a guitar, or whatever!
Makes me angry, to be honest..

Thank you for sharing this, it's a VERY important issue! The animals haven't asked to live in our societies and don't deserve to be mistreated.
Goes for so called livestock and other animals too, though.. 😉

I love all those doggies there, I'm sure I would have taken one of them home.. 🙂

I wonder if Hive is a good place for charities to raise funds?
I give money monthly, but this might be good option for some.

Hey Anna

Thank you for your valuable comment and opinion on this topic.

That is great that the shelters in the UK try to match the potential owner and the dog, maybe here too but I didn't ask. At the moment I can not offer a dog or a cat a happy life with me. Maybe one day if I will live in a bit slower tempo haha. Let's say slow down from prestissimo to allegro at least :)

So your Holly is also a rescue dog, nice! Yes, I imagine it takes a lot of time and patience, and love. They are scared, and if abused then even more.

Also, you are right that it is an important topic and no place should ignore it if there is an issue. I have seen with my eyes places where there are no funds for this issue and stray dogs live on the streets, that just one local dr and her mom try to take care of them from sure death. The city doesn't take responsibility. Sometimes those dogs gather and make a herd and even they can attack. But they are not to blame for that, but the ex-owners and town counsellors. Luckily, in Spain, I don't see these cases as I suppose this rescue and finding a home for them works a bit better :))

Ha ha, love the musical reference there!
That would be lovely, you getting a cat or a dog, but, as you say, might be bit of a tough one for you with all going on..
But we all know you'd be a great cat or dog Mum when the day comes! :)

Totally agree that the animals can rarely be blamed, they just try to get by, and they are usually the last ones society thinks of, although, I'd like to think there is some change in sentiment, as esp cats and dogs, and more and more others too, are considered family, which is lovely.

But we all know you'd be a great cat or dog Mum when the day comes! :)

Thanks, I hope I will 😇

Well, I was always a cat or dog (and both at the same time) mom, but the circumstances changed 😅

I suppose, I can guess, what those circumstances were/are.. 😅

It was moving and living in a rented flat. ;)

Not what I thought then.. ah, well... lol

booo hooo hoooo, I miss my dog {sob} ...Buon Giorno mon ami .... I am finally back online!! I trust all is well with you and your loved ones

@themagus !!!!

Hey hey, where's You?
Italy ?

Yes, indeed but still basically living out of suitcases ....

That is so cool and interesting!
Enjoy as much as you can 😃

Hi there! such a lovely experience indeed. The last time i went to such event was way a long time ago i cant even remember when exactly. I love dogs more than cats and I used to have a black cross bred retriever and collie border. When he passed away i couldnt get myself to have another one as it was sooooo heartbreaking. It took me a month to grieve and to move on!

I hope all those pets in that event got adopted by beautiful souls though.
Have a good one @mipiano!

😊

Chichi18

Hey @chichi18

Thank you for stopping by and for your kind comment :)

Oh, I know that feeling when we are heartbroken and we need time to grieve and move on. I still remember all the dogs we had during my childhood and also the majority of the cats, but cats we had too many.

Now the dog of my parents is getting really old, and we know one day we will have to say goodbye to him. It always hurts, but after all our promises that we will never have a pet again, we again have them, right?
At the moment I don't have any, but not because I wouldn't like to :D

Thanks again for your visit, have a great day (evening) you too 😇 👋

Awww...so many cuties all in one place!

I would totally adopt a pet from a shelter. Last month I saw puppies up for adoption online but I was a few minutes late in sending my request. I felt sad about it because I really wanted one. I have more than enough love for a new pet and my puppy needs a sibling.

Yeah, so many cuties indeed. I really loved that white one... well, I liked all of them hahaha...

I hope you can find another offer to adopt a puppy or a dog. Probably you have some shelter nearby, so maybe you can have some more info?

We don't really have shelters over here. We usually buy pets from breeders and pet shops. So the offer I found was a rare one.

It is a pity you dont have these shelters

It would be indeed great as that way the animals are rescued and also people could adopt them instead of buying them

This is such an amazing initiative, I would have totally adopted the I'm a brown dog, always wanted a brown dog.

The brown dog that I said was very soft? As a soft toy? That was a cutie, but all of them were sweet, the big ones were especially friendly and liked to be cuddled :))

I hope you can have one day the dog you wanted :)

Yes, that one, looks so precious.
Maybe one day soon enough I can get a dog.
I can't wait.

🐶 that brown was indeed a soft sweetheart

hope you can have it ( but what about the cat we have talked about recently? hehehe)
ok, they can live together :)

Well, I always had a soft spot for dogs and I don't think I can even handle two pets.

🎶 + 🐈 + 🎶 + 🐕= happiness :))

Seems like a perfect combination.

I really liked that white dog😍😍😍 it's so funny!!!

I would love to go to a ceremony like this to see the dogs and take pictures of them. Dogs are very intelligent animals and i love them🐶

Thank you so much for sharing interesting and different content with us🙋💯👌👏

Yeah, the white was a funny one, and how cute it was :)

Dogs are interesting, and they can become our best friends, we even treat them as family members... the same as cats...
I saw your story about your cat Siya. I am sorry he disappeared, he was lovely 😇
