Managing both pheasants and chickens together produces rewards although this management involves rigorous attention. The care needs for pheasants are different from chickens because they maintain flightier behaviors.
Despite their increased activity level pheasants require larger well-secured spaces than the typical enclosure used for chickens. A covered run must be installed since it functions as both a barrier for escape attempts and a shield against predator attacks. Each pheasant requires at least 25 square feet of coop space while chickens need 4 square feet of space. Nesting boxes along with perches are suitable for chickens but pheasants prefer to nest on the ground.
Pheasants require a protein diet that exceeds the needs of chickens in their diet. Start feeding pheasant chicks game bird starter with protein whereas chickens should consume a chick starter. The minimum protein intake for mature pheasants needs to be yet adults of the chicken species thrive on a diet containing The birds must receive fresh water alongside grit while occasional greens should be available for feeding.
The stress and disease resistance of pheasants proves inferior to chickens in these aspects. You should keep coops clean and dry as well as minimize bird population density to stop infections. Check for necessary vaccinations before carrying out observations for respiratory symptoms and parasite indications. Isolate sick birds immediately.
Pheasants typically show aggressive behavior and they have the tendency to peck chickens. Make sure to introduce them when they are chicks while continuously observing bully behavior. House the aggressive pheasants apart from others when continued aggressive behavior occurs.
The combination of suitable housing with proper nutritious feeding and appropriate caretaking enables successful cohabitation between pheasants and chickens which leads to healthy animals and productive results.
