My pet tarantula kokopelli has just molted. I got this shot through the glass so she looks a bit blueish.

Here is a shot of her new exoskeleton from above. She is looking very rosy and fuzzy. She is a Chilean rose hair tarantula. The recent molting shows her full color nicely.

Here is the molted shell. She had to pull each of her legs and fangs out of the old shell.

To begin the molting process she had to pop off the skin over her head like some kind of lid.

Here is the top of her head skin. The little cluster towards the right are her tiny little eyes. They are only good for determining if it is day out, they do most of their seeing through all the tiny hairs on their legs.

This is the bottom of the molted shell.

This looks like something out of the predator movie.

These are the fangs, very sharp and powerful. Her venom is very weak but can leave a welt. They overpower their prey mostly by a strong bite. Fortunately Chilean rose hair tarantulas are very docile and rarely ever bite larger things like humans. Through their hair sensitivity they can tell if something is prey or a larger threat. She is used to being handled but if she ever did want to bite she could easily pierce through to the bone.

That is most people's reaction to her. Though once they see me handle her they lose fear.

Hahaha there are animals that are definitely not pets. I would watch you without fear but from a distance, for videos. They give me a phobia.

I have a blue one also, unfortunately the blue cobalt tarantula has short hairs so they bite indiscriminately thinking everything is food. This rosehair is a gentle giant of spiders.

Oh, that's more dangerous, in the case of blue spiders.

But her color is amazing. I'll have to try and catch her irridescent blue in my next post.

Hahahha :D

My goodness definitely something out of the predator movie lol.

Wow... this looks so horrific.
This seems very dangerous.

It only looks dangerous but this spider is probably the safest spider pet one could have. This is the same species from the movie home alone where it crawled on the burgler's face.

Yaya, I remember.
But this is terrible.
Is this spider dead.

No it just shed its skin and that's what have in my hand.

You almost got it right for Caturday! :D

I didn't know the shed the fangs too.

She is sort of lazy like a cat, just sits around all day and only comes out when there is food. She only shed the outer shell of her fangs, I wish I could have seen the molting process their fangs are white and almost translucent as they molt.

WoW!! I didn't know they change their "skin"!! What a cool new blue one!! :)
And I didn't know that they have so tiny eyes... thanks!
At first looking only at the images, I thought you were cuddling her!! LOL!! ahahauahauah!! Because..well, she is your pet!! ahahah!! I'm crazy lol
Awesome shots!!

I do handle her sometimes very docile.

Uooooooo!!! Great!! You are a boy with inner calm...total respect to you :)

I grew up in a place with lots of big spiders so its normal for me. Ticks on the other hand creep me out.

Ow, no way a tarantula would be any close to my hand heheh

but, wow, for your ability to handle your tarantula pet :)

My fiance is really the one who loves this spider. She handles her more than me lol, it was a birthday present for her.

great, very good catch. I like.

Thanks, I've had this spider for around 6 years now, they can live up to 30 years.

You're welcome, There are many types of spiders that we can get in this world. I hope you can show other types of spiders next time Thank you for sharing.

It looks like some toy with those holes in the body ;)) But she’s big and she looks wicked with those sharp teeth ;))

Yeah imagine if we humans had to shed our entire skin all at once how weird it would be.

That is incredible! I'm also amazed at how tiny and nearly useless the eyes are. It makes me want one. Why do predators make the best pets?

Yeah they are basically blind other than all their hairs as feelers. One day I want to get a green bottle blue tarantula, another docile species that has amazing colors. The only problem with them is they web up their entire cage so its hard to even see them.

It looks very cool though! I've never seen that species before.

Yeah they are hard to find for sale anywhere. Though spiderlings can be ordered online easily, the trouble is feeding them at a tiny size is difficult.

Spider skins are always amazing to examine. How often does she moult?

Probably every three years or so. The skins are very delicate and weigh less than a feather, it crumbles easily.

This is cool. Now I know how tarantula shed off their old shell 👍

Yeah pretty much all insects and arachnids shed their skin at some time.

Australia has a reputation for having scary creatures, but that my friend is terrifying!

I think all the scariest creatures hold political office, I'll take a spider anyday over one of those lol.

Too true! And they're in every country!!

Perhaps not Antarctica but its too cold to play guitar down there.

Good thing I like spiders... ;))

This one could be good to clear out the barn mice.
