The folks who created the Lightning network also Created Handshake (HNS).
One of the minds behind LN along with Poon and Dryja is Christopher Jeffrey also known as JJ. Developed BCoin a BTC node in JS and Plasma an implementation of LN.
You can find him on github as ChJJ. Poon and JJ again collaborated on Handshake. Basically the effort was to fullfil Satoshi's dream of BitDNS as mentioned in the original BTC whitepaper.
Since Namecoin did not really cut it, Poon and JJ built Handshake, a POW chain that serves as a decentralized Root Zone of the internet.
