And then you are squeaking in response: "But I hoped to reach a broader audience one day!", and right at that moment, you hear the sound of a scythe cutting through the air.
But! Some other web2 places are much less dark and damp than Instagram. One of them is Reddit. You subscribe to a thematically appropriate community, share an image there and then get a ton of likes and feedback below. Be a Redditor, Not a Spammer!
Sharing links on Reddit can work in two ways:
- One way helps both Hive and Reddit community (a subreddit) since it gives interesting content to the subreddit and gets views and potential new users to Hive.
- Another way harms both: if you share a boring, useless post on the thematically wrong community, you'll play the role of a spammer.
The best way to be a Redditor is:
1/ Find several Reddit communities that are thematically close to your interests.
2/ Post (without Hive links) and answer comments there to truly be a part of the subreddit.
3/ Share Hive links from time to time - choose the best Hive posts that can be useful for the chosen Reddit community (subreddit). But, first, check if the community's rules allow sharing links to blogs or self-promotion. You can find the rules of a subreddit on the main page on the right:

Anyway, thank you so much for being active and taking the time to document this properly. We'll create a list soon of the people who've contributed and send out some liquid Hive rewards that we offered initially (they're a bit delayed due to offering a loan to @commentrewarder but due to a very generous donation by @vcelier to that service we'll be able to get the loan back shortly!).

I think spamming Hive links on Reddit or X actually lowers the value of Hive according to most algorithms. I also think most people are looking for relevant one off content. It would be far more beneficial if non-Hivers could initially subscribe to Hivers content without signing up. Competition for Hive is actually with Wordpress and adding more features here for bloggers, SEO, homepages etc..would be far more beneficial imo.

Nobody promotes spamming here. Some subreddits hate links to blogs, some subreddits want them. For example, some national or regional subreddits (like Georgia or Kyrgyzstan I tried this week) do want to see what foreigners write about their countries. Subreddits of small non-touristy US states do want to see detailed reports on their local sightseeing places. Or let's say a vegan subreddit can be happy to get a detailed authentic vegan recipe from India - they might have zero Indians there at all. Etc. Moreover, any link poster can become a reader of the subreddit or even an active poster there - small subreddits know that well.
We don't need to choose between sharing Hive links and other activities, these things can co-exist. Moreover, sharing links is actually SEO so @redditposh can be considered a SEO tool.
I know what you mean, but adding unnatural links lowers SEO scores. If you had 5 links from 20 removed, that's a pretty high metric, and I would say your Blogposts are some of the more higher quality ones compared to most of the spam promoted with Posh.
Looks you don't understand the term you use. A link from social media (Reddit) that leads from a subreddit, for example, about tourism in Poland to a Hive article about tourism in Poland can't be called unnatural. And this is exactly how @redditposh works.

Yeah not sure I understand his thought process either, Reddit was literally started as a link sharing platform. Sure nowadays with their upcoming IPO and adding their own img and video hosting it's become a bit "unfriendlier" towards links sending people to other sites but I doubt small sites like our ecosystem is a big threat to them. Pretty sure they're mostly concerned over youtube, facebook, Instagram, etc links.
