“Dinner Date” - Episode 1 (Short Story)
I was stunned and stood there in the hall for a good two minutes. After analysing the situation I entered the bedroom. And she was already into Pajamas and stormed past me to the kitchen. This was a magical skill she possessed, whenever she had to get ready for somewhere it usually took her 45-60mins. But slipping into the comfort dress is just a blink of an eye. I stopped my thought train and followed her to the kitchen. I stood there looking at her, not sure what to say and how to initiate conversation.
“Abhi kya chahiye?” She asked [Eng Trans - What do you want?]
“Arey!!! tumhe kya chahiye. Darr lag raha hain mujhe.” I replied [Eng Trans - What do YOU want? You are scaring me.]
She started chopping the onions.
“Idhar aao aur ye lehsun cheelon.” She asked. [Eng Trans - Come and peel this garlic.]
“What you doing?”
“What does it look like? I am making dinner. Kichdi khaate hain.” She replied.
“Look I know you are angry, let me make it up to you. Let me take you out for dinner.” I asked this time holding her hand.
“It is ok. You don't have to treat me special just because it a pink-coloured date on the calendar.” She replied. Holding my hand. Not trying to break away or anything.
“But it's Valentine's Day, It calls for the celebration of Love and togetherness,” I replied.
“I think we are past that point, we are not young and lovey-dovey couples. We are getting old and I think it's time we should stop all of this. Ok Tell me what you had planned for this evening.” she asked.
“Well, nothing spl, but a dinner at Vijayarani and maybe a little shopping if time permits,” I replied. I immediately realised what a boring and uneventful plan that was.
“How romantic.” She laughed sarcastically.
“Haan, I agree It's not romantic. But this is the best I can do at the moment.” I replied. She is well aware of my situation with the current project and my office.
“Then what's the point of all this?” She asked.
“Well, isn't that what we are supposed to do? Dinner, Shopping, movies, spending time.” I replied.
“Let's skip the first few and spend time here,” she replied.
“Niceee!! I like where this is heading.” I said raising an eyebrow and smirking.
“Don't get the wrong ideas. My plan is dinner, TV and a good night's sleep.” She replied.
“You are telling me that you want to have Khichdi for dinner, watch Dance Deewane and off to bed for Vday?” I inquired if I had heard that correctly.
“Any problem?”
“I agree we are not young any more but we aren't that old either,” I replied.
“So? What's the plan?”
“Zomato, Netflix and GoodNight,” I suggested.
“Zomato, Netflix and GoodNight, it is.” Wifey agreed with a smile.
It was the same beautiful smile that made me fall in love with her again
Hi Folks,
quality time.
I will cry about that in some other post. This is it for now.
I ended the story in just two episodes fearing that I may not be able to end the story at all.
And before I go, would like to thank IndiaUnited, BeAwesome and Thoughtfuldailypost for their love and motivation.
The problem with me is that I am not the romantic kind. And this V-Day thing is just too much for me. The best I could think of was to gift my wife @priyanukesh a chocolate and a bunch of flowers (Dont know even the name), But I think I got the idea of the ideal Vday. They don't expect ridiculous gifts and all like they show in movies and TV, they just want the company to spend
