In simple words, a conspiracy theory is an “interesting” explanation that seeks to provide more information about circumstances or events. I'm aware of a few conspiracy theories, and one thing about them is that they are presented in a way that makes you want to believe them. I'm aware of a few popular conspiracy theories. The most recent one I still have in my head is about the Oceans gate submisile. About two years ago, a group of people decided to go very deep underwater to find the missing Titanic. The titanic wreck is approximately 12,500 feet underwater. Imagine 5 people deciding to go that deep through a submisile controlled with a remote. That’s like a suicide mission. About half a day into the expedition, Ocensgate released sad news that the submisile imploded and that the 5 people all died within seconds.
The victims included; the CEO of Oceansgate, and 4 others. Now, there is a conspiracy theory that those five people didn't die, but escaped to an unknown island to start a new life. I don’t know how true this is, but it seems believable. As I mentioned, one thing about conspiracy theories is that they are presented in a believable way. While some think that the 5 people all died, others believe they are living a perfect life in an unknown highland.
Another interesting conspiracy theory is about Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi. Hushpuppi was arrested in 2020 for hundreds of scams, involving billions of dollars. Before his arrest, Hushpuppi was an extravagant spender. He was not in the league of other celebrities, he was among the elite members. He bought the most expensive wristwatches. The type of wristwatches he wore could literally build houses. He built houses in his home country, Nigeria and also in other countries. He wore expensive clothes, jewelry and drove classy cars. He flaunted private jets that you wonder if he got them for free. Yes, he was that rich.
Hushpuppi often mocked broke people, particular celebrities. As long as you are not within his league, you are broke. He was always on the lookout for Nigerian musicians, and would always taunt them at every slight opportunity. Everyone wondered about the source of his wealth. He told people he was a businessman- a real estate developer, but everyone knew that was just a facade to deceive people. Everyone knew the real estate could not have given him millions of dollars in months, but no one dared to say anything about it. We all watched Hushpuppi squandered “his” money and showed us his expensive properties online.
To our surprise, Hushpuppu was arrested in Dubai on November 7, 2020. Apparently, just like everyone suspected, Hushpuppu didn't get his money from real estate. He got his millions through internet scams. He targeted high-class victims including law firms and banks. He also intercepted a transfer of a football player. The police discovered laptops, phones, and other tools Hushouppi and his team used to carry out their internet scams. Hushpuppi pleaded guilty and was sent to jail in Los Angeles. Currently, he's serving his term there.
Interestingly, there is a conspiracy theory that Ray Hushpuppi is not in prison at all, but is instead living a low-key life in another country. I don't know how true this is, but I heard that two years ago, he supposedly posted on his Instagram. Maybe this was just part of the conspiracy theory? If Hushpuppi had been arrested and jailed in Nigeria, I would have found this conspiracy theory more believable. However, he is in a US jail, which is extremely difficult to break out of or bribe your way out of. So, I don't believe this conspiracy theory.
