My Vision For A Vibrant Town

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable life for citizens, it is important that public spaces are conducive, safe, and well-maintained. When quality public areas are provided, citizens easily carry out their daily activities and grow well in the community. As citizens of a country, we are entitled to certain amenities. What’s the point of paying tax if public spaces are left neglected? Here in my country, while some places, particularly big states, enjoy quality public spaces, others are neglected and left bare. I have spent so many years in this town and some things are still the way they were when I was young. Sometimes, I wonder if my town is still part of the country, or if it has been cut out. Day 16 of the Inleo prompt asks us how we can modify the public spaces in our towns.

If I could pull the strings, one of the ways I'd modify the public spaces in my town is by installing security lights. I grew up in a catholic home, where every morning, we'd trek to church- about 20 minutes walk. Since there were no security street lights, we made use of torchlights which didn't cover a long distance at all. Security lights are important for ensuring safety and reducing the rate of crimes, especially at night. Luckily, we never had an ugly experience. I guess we prevented ugly experiences because we walked in groups. Imagine you're a worker who goes for afternoon to night shifts- imagine coming home at night in a poorly lit environment, where crickets are chirping and shadows seem to lurk in the bushes. Not only do security street lights ensure safety of citizens, they also beautify public spaces. Similarly, alongside these street lights, security personnel should be stationed in strategic places.

Also, another way I'd modify the public spaces in my town is by building new roads. I mentioned earlier that some things are still the way they are in my town ever since my childhood days, and one of them is the roads. Citizens make use of good roads every day. Not only do good roads ensure safety, but they also prevent disasters like flooding. In my town, the only time the government remembers to build good roads for us is during elections- they do this for personal and selfish interests. During the last presidential election, the government started re-building some roads in my town. They destroyed houses and shops that were on the roads, leading to life-time worth of properties. I believe they intentionally made the work process slow so they'd achieve their goal. After the candidate won the election, they abandoned the project and left the road half-done. If I could pull the strings, one of the things I'd do is build good roads in public spaces.

Public restrooms are overlooked, but they are important amenities that should be in place. In my town, the only places you find public restrooms are in gas stations or restaurants. Although there are a few ones in strategic places, compared to the population, we need more. This will especially come in handy for parents with children. Have you ever been in a traveling bus where a passenger is a parent with a child or someone who is experiencing a running stomach? The bus keeps stopping in bushes and unhygienic places. If public restrooms are readily available, travelers could use these facilities instead of resorting to bushes or other unhygienic areas.

More importantly, another thing that should be present in public spaces are composting facilities. Most places in this place lack them, and so people go around dumping refuse in gutters or rivers, which is very unhygienic. If composting facilities are in place, it will in turn lead to a clean community as citizens will not dump refuse in public spaces.

Thanks for reading.

Nice post

All of these things are what I believe every town needs and it’s good to know that you have the mind of putting these things in place if you can, to make your town a conducive place for everyone there.

Having streetlights on at night is one of the best things to help most citizens who work extra hours and of course those who have reasons to leave their homes even before the day dawns.

Having a composting bin at different locations is one way to teach people how to dump their refuses right. It makes it easier to tell them not to dump things just anywhere but when it is not in place, it would be hard to do so. And having public restrooms will be of great benefit to travelers and visitors.

Thanks for sharing this with us, love. ❤️
