Celebrations with Friends

in Indiaunited11 months ago

Last evening was one of my friend's Son Navjote Ceremony. Navjote is a ceremony in Zoroastrian religion that happens for children before their puberty. This ceremony initiates them in to the religion. The ceremony is done in a very grand manner because it is like a pride for every parent to initiate their children into the religion. The ceremony is as grand as a wedding, with friends and family invited for the ceremony and then there is a party which is all celebrated in a very traditional way. With this ceremony done after that the child starts wearing a Sudreh and a Kusti. A Sudreh is like a vest which is made from a white muslin cloth in a certain manner and the Kusti is made of lamb's wool. There is a lot that goes behind the making of it and is made in a very special manner. These 2 are then worn for lifetime below the clothes.

It is meant to be worn all the time though nowadays a lot of youngsters do not wear them on regular basis, since it may not go with certain costumes. Even I remove it sometimes when I have to wear a open dress. Else on a day to day basis we always wear it.

It was a nice celebration. The couple had invited almost everyone from the society that we live in, so it was a nice catch up with lot of friends, which I had not met for a long time.

Since it is Christmas time, the decorations of the venue also had some Christmas effect.

This ceremony is of great importance for the child and parents and once done it is a joy for everyone that the child is initiated into the religion. Because once the child hits puberty this ceremony cannot be done. Every parent does it for their child in their own way. Not necessary it has to be done in grand ways. People with financial issues will do it in their own capacity. The important thing is that it has to be done.

These traditional celebrations are something that I always look forward to and enjoy the most.

what an interesting tradition....never have heard about it
strings on the tress are fantastic!

I like your look, dear! very gorgeous dress!

My community is very small just about 100K globally so our traditions and customs are also not very much known to the world.
Thank you sweetheart, I too enjoy wearing a Saree.

I was loking for Sarees in that Indian local store, but none of them...there are some dresses but not like Sarees from Insian movies;( I am in love with them since my childhood;)

Time to really spend quality time with friends as it is necessary

It is very much required in life

Decoration looks so beautiful

Thank you

Beautiful decorations, I like the symbol of the bird in the second image. I think the way the modern world functions makes it hard to practice old traditions at all times but it's good to know that people still adhere to it.

The symbol is called the Farohar, every part of it has a spiritual meaning. In my tradition most of us wear it as a pendant on a regular basis, just like how Christians wear a Cross

Oh great. I think it's wonderful to wear the Farohar on a regular basis, it can serve as an anchor towards one's spiritual roots and stay connected with it.

Happy Navjote to your friend’s son
I’ve never heard about this tradition but it seem cool and makes sense

Thank you. It's not a very well known tradition since my community is very small
