Cars look better without licence plates on them -the steemit plates are no more

in Hive Australia4 years ago

Several years ago, @mattclarke had an idea. In order to drag in every South Australian in the then Steem community, we should do some automotive marketing. I wrote a long article on this topic previously, and how it essentially failed to gather any traction. (I'm really failing at omitting automatise puns)

That article I wrote sums it up well.

... two pieces of blue, thin metal have graced the front and rear of my car since that date. They managed to capture one Steemian in the wild, who attended one of our local, monthly meet ups. Since then - it hasn't done very much at all.

It appears that the "social" part of networking doesn't work. I don't get any honks, (Rather, I honk at people who tend to fail to drive with any due care) - and people rarely ask about the symbology or significance of a licence plate - not even the service people who look after my car once a year to keep it running like new.

This morning, I walked down to the Service SA centre near my house, and I surrended the "Steemit" licence plates. They were no longer a representation (and hadn't, for many months) been something I was passionate about, since the whole.. well, incident with Mr Tron. Even before that, I often looked at my car's obvious identity with a fair amount of scorn.

The scorn I felt was that as identifiable as this hunk of steel may've been - it had little to no impact on the intent, which was to start conversation, and use that conversation to convert people to a blogging platform where they can share and be seen by those who look for their stuff, no matter what algorithms decide to return as a result.

For a short time, my car had an identity. Any allotment of alphanumeric characters is a specific identity too. I now have a random assortment of alpha numeric characters on the front and rear of my car, and to celebrate, today I washed my car, twice.

I'll also be saving a fair bit of money each year I do not need to renew the custom licence plate agreement, which means I will have more fiat currency to do other things with.

I've thought of this as a tattoo for my car these past years. That tattoo is now removed, apart from its presence on a few block chains, and perhaps a government database or two.

I think the lack of a custom plate on my car will help me enjoy driving all over again - with the anonymity that a standard issue licence plate lends to an otherwise nondescript vehicle.

You can always get hiveit plates

Don't think I will :)

Not such a sad day considering the outcome of Steemit. But I applaud and thank you for your efforts.
Do they really make you return the plates though? You can’t just renew and keep them and hang them on a wall or something? What possible use could they do with them?

Gotta surrender them to get the new plates these days.

They probably get melted down and reformed into other plates. At least I hope that's what happens.

At least now you can safely drive like an asshole without fear of someone easily recognising your vehicle in a car park at a later date.....

I drive more like a nanna. :D

Nothing wrong with a bit of Nanna action.

That sounds much worse than it is meant to.
