Hello hivers…
Welcome to my blog..
So, recently I have been doing some research on the various organic ways to take care of my birds and how to prevent them from falling ill to diseases.
Stumbled on bitter leave which is a very common shrub in our locality. We even have a special dish made from the leave of the plant called ‘bitter leave soup'.
When I was younger I do wonder why people will like such a soup that has such a name ‘bitter leave' letter on I discovered the various help benefits it has not only to human beings but to animals too.
For poultry, bitter leave can be used to prevent several poultry problems like to treat Coccidiosis which can be a serious problem in poultry.
It can also be used to deworm the birds
Can be used to treat Diarrhoea and other bacterial diseases
And also serve as a growth promoter or booster as it makes the birds drink more water and grow better.
These are some of the benefits of bitter leave has on poultry.
Unlike the conventional way of giving the birds antibiotics with the use of drugs, which are good because it does the work, but we have to also consider the after effect it will have on humans that eat the meat.
Most of all these drugs has residual effect and can cause resistance to some disease we might have, but the organic means is much better and doesn’t pose any threat to our health.
So, preparing the bitter leave extract, I harvested some fresh bitter leaves from my compound and washed them well.
Then I chopped them to smaller fragment so it will be easier to blend with a blender I added some water to it and blended it to get the extract..
I applied like 3 bottle water cap of the extract to the birds 4litr drinking water for them to consume.

I've heard a lot about the health benefit of vegetables like bitter leaf. It have been recommended for my use in some situations, but... I couldn't. Haha. I can't imagine myself taking it because of the bitterness.
But, I genuinely believe it will help your birds stay healthy
LoL...
The funny things is the bitterness is only for a small while then after is will have a little sweat taste.
I intent to explore the use of these vegetables in my homestead...
