Feedback time! What is your vision of a good newbie community?

There have been so many changes in this community recently, but amidst all the drama, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that many new users don't know about the twists and turns of the transition from STEEM to HIVE. Many won't care to know every detail either. I believe HIVE needs to stand on it's own two feet, and part of that process is having a community where newbies can get started, without any judgement, pressure or gimmicks.

Now that the foundations are in place. It's time to populate this community, so I'd like to ask you about your vision of a newbie community that will benefit new users, and the community as a whole.

So, please let me know:

  • What makes a successful community on HIVE? What will make or break this community?
  • What issues have you seen in other communities, that we might strive to avoid?
  • Should we hit people with as much info as possible, or trim the fat and keep things user friendly as possible?
  • Any other suggestions on rules, conventions, etc are most welcome.

Thanks!

I would do a pinned post with all the important websites listed with bulletpoints. Then a word or a sentence explaining what it is used for.
I would cover keychain and link "How to" posts for every browser.
I would recommend peakd as primary UI.
I would explain witness voting, vests, HP, HBD and HIVE, delegations, dapps, second layer(Hive-engine), smts, communities and "dos and don'ts" (HIVE netiquette)

If neebies know all of the above they are good to go.

Great points, I think some introductory info on how blockchain works and what decentralization are and mean, in comparison to centralized spaces would help to alter their mindset (speaking from experience and a relatively Noob point of view)
That Hive is a multi-media hub for all the different mediums they may be interested in or using now but with a tokenized decentralized uncensored individual freedom foundation.
Also how their interaction on Hive , as well as bringing in their networks of friends and contacts, and promoting the use of the Hive benefits them personally the project, and society at the same time.
Thanks for all your efforts!
Peace

I agree, thanks for your comment!

Good point about blockchain itself. If we ever want truly wide adoption, people will need to get their heads around blockchain pretty fast.

Great suggestions. Thanks.

We need to cover basic steps and make it easier for people to join here.
i started working on a tutorial on how to create a Community, it's not easy...i didn't have enough money to make one, but no where could i find out how much it costs to make one....this tutorial will be needed for people who want to make their own communities...right now the info on this is scant at best.

Yeah, I think newcomers are often left to fend for themselves. It will take time, but hopefully in the future they'll be able to find everything they need to get started here.

So far so good. I have a lot of reading to do now loll
