This is for the absolute beginners like me. After watching 50 minutes Guide to Hive on Youtube, I first signed up Hive through Ecency. However, I didn't get 4 Hive Hierarchical keys but just Ecency ID and password. Where are those keys? It took me a few nights to figure out. The following is the procedure I did:
- go to hive.blog and log in with your Ecency user name and password
- you will get the warning window "Logging in with non-posting key". Don't worry. Click the red highlight sentence on this window, "Open my Hive Wallet to access and view my posting key".
- you will go to a new page showing Posting Key, Activate Key, Owner Key and Memo Key. But all those keys are masked with black dots.
- Click Reveal button beside any key, a log-in window will pop up and sign in with your Ecency user name and password again. This time, you will see all your 4 keys.
- Write down those keys and keep them in the safe place.
With these 4 keys, you can sign in almost all Hive Dapps with your Ecency user name.
Yes, yes I am glad you found this out, it is important that all users of this platform secure their keys, I will tell you a horror story about my keys. Before the hard fork when we migrated from Steem so like around the summer of 2019. I was sure that I saved all my keys offline and wrote them down and I also saved them in a wordpad doc,but my computer crashed and the passwords I wrote down were not working no matter what I did. for six months I was locked out and heartbroken lol. https://peakd.com/hive/@wedacoalition/i-allmost-lost-my-hive-account
I ended up buying a device to extract data from a broken hard drive and was able to recover my keys and unlocked my account. When I looked at my keys I realized that when I wrote them down I wrote one letter as a lower case when it should have been an upper case, just one letter and I almost lost my account.
This was helpful, thank you!
