DM In-between: The Hunt (part 1) (D&D story)

in Scholar and Scribe2 months ago (edited)

Hello, Everyone!

This is a special type of post our DM sometimes blesses us with. A 'here's what you don't see', where he tells us something that's going on in the world while our heroes are doing their thing (which is over here). We've had one such post before, and there are a few more to come in this Arc alone!

Enjoy!

The tunnels were dark and quiet. Far in the distance, the rivers of lava hissed and flowed into the Bright Lake.

They had stopped for a rest. Their gaze shifted away from their dinner, still twitching on the rocks, and landed on the book. It had such a good, informative cover! The face of this Maha exuded self-confidence and ego, and they wondered if there was any grounds for that.

Mosrael was clearly visible on his belt, but the informant had clearly said three bells.

The hairs on their body stood up in excitement. Their hunting instinct began to rise and they had to slow down their breathing to stay calm. They had a long way to go, but it was time to see where it’d lead them. Bel'gaer would have to do the trick, again.

They sat by the fire with their legs tucked underneath them, and concentrated on the Maha’s face. They had to be careful. Even Astarael was more forgiving to mistakes.

The bell rang once, softly, with the right pitch--praise Lolth!--but its magic didn’t work out. Were they… rejected? They felt their face tighten and contort into a wicked smile.

This hunt was going to be exciting.

Are you confused? So were we when we read that for the first time! Who is that hunter? Why are they so interested in Aurum's bells? And, wait, do they have Bel'gaer AND Astarael???

So many questions! So few answers!
Do you have any guess what's happening?

Anyway, see you next time when we'll be back to our favourite heroes and their teleportation to Zerakas tol! I can't wait!!!

Take care and be well!

Episodes of Mary Windfiddle's story come out every Monday and Thursday.

and the Map for the series. You're welcome!)

An important disclaimer: Mary Windfiddle's story is my notes from a D&D game turned into a narrative. All the worldbuilding and NPC encounters belong to our DM, and all the actions of the other main characters (Aurum, Bruno and Agatha) belong to my co-players. My contribution to the story is only everything Mary-related (actions, reactions, inner thoughts), as well as the writing itself.
