Catina trudged repeatedly from one end of the healer's room to the other, occasionally stamping her feet. Her hands were intermittently curling to form different shapes and travelling from one part of her body to the other, but occasionally taking their rest mostly on her head and her waist.
Wearied, she decided to plop down on the edge of the plank-like bed Kasan, her only son of 12, was lying in. Just before her buttocks made contact with the bed, she heard, "Aquaria." Impulsively, she spun around—the stunt resembling that of a pro athlete.
No sooner had the sound come than it disappeared.
Facing her son, she bent and patted his forehead and hair gently and repeatedly, hoping that he'd speak again. Kasan said nothing. He was rather lying there, like someone who's having a sound rest on a mellow mattress.
"But this boy suffered a violent attack that led to a seizure an hour ago." Catina mumble.
Kasan's slightly parted lips let out smooth, rhythmic breaths that indicate his sound repose. The anxiety of a few hours ago has faded from his features, leaving behind a serene expression. His cheeks have a natural rosy hue, as though the dream he's having is painting his world.
Katrina sat back with mixed feelings. A part of her is glad that her boy seems stable; the other part is trying to understand why there seems to be no cue to what he's been suffering from time to time. If she were to explain to someone the kind of violence attack this boy has been suffering since he was four, she'd have no evidence.
Suddenly she wore a frown and snapped, "And where on earth did he hear the word, Aquaria?"
"He knows more than you think. Stop hiding him from his fate." Thundered by the healer, who was gliding through the doorway towards them.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know when I said that out loud." She apologised before asking, "And what do you mean by "he knows everything?"
Mom, stop this game; I'm aware. You're keeping me from my destiny."
Catina jumped to her feet out of surprise, mixed with a slight fear.
"I lost my children and husband due to the constant war between the Aquaria kingdom, which has the force of water, and the Pyronia kingdom, which has the force of fire." She narrated, sobbing.
"My world came to an end. On my way to take my life, I met you as a baby, abandoned in a bush. You were so tender and beautiful. So I took you and decided to nurture you away from the chaos of water and fire."
"I love you, Kasan."
She paused and glanced at the healer pleadingly before looking Kasan in the face to accentuate.
"You're the only reason I'm living."
"Your ploy would've made perfect sense if you and the boy were safe here. Run to the end of the end of the world. The war between Aquaria and Pyronia will catch everyone."
The healer spoke, his voice reverberating through the narrow room.
"I don't want you to die, my son." Said Catina, still sobbing.
"Then, allow him to fulfil his destiny. He's the element of convergence."
"Element conver....?"
"Mum!" Kasan, who's been quietly perching on the bed, cuts in.
"That explains what has been happening to me; I mean, the repeated seizures."
"Before I suffer a seizure, floods or wildfires will rise within me."
"I convulse while struggling to either not get drowned by water or burned by fire."
"When I'm brought to this bed,"
Kasan said, touching the bed he's sitting on.
"I will dream of how the elements of fire and water are working in harmony."
"Kasan is the element of convergence. He's the only one who has the power of fire and water."
"If he doesn't learn how to control and harness his power, he'll be killed by it. Then Aquaria, Pyronia, and the rest of the world will be destroyed."
"His training must begin now."
The healer sounded, with a note of finality.
Kazan was later trained by the healer and released to go and bring unity to the kingdom of water and fire.
No! Water and fire did not mix together. But they walked together for good.
The fire, instead of destroying lives and properties, only burned chaff and waste, kept the earth warm, and provided light and other forms of energy.
The water, instead of interfering with the work of the fire, waters the crops and provides nourishment for people.
Kasan, the element convergence, succeeded in making the two elements, fire and water, work together for the common good of humanity.
By doing so, the kingdoms of Aquaria and Pyronia lived in harmony.
I love how the story ended with the kingdoms being in peace and harmony. This is well written and I also amazed of how the elements of fire and water worked together. Great piece!

What we may term a disaster is only but a blessing in disguise. Kasan had to face his given destiny. And though his mother posed an opposition, we understand why. This is a good story with a strong lesson.

I did think that Kasan had no hope of surviving with all the terrible seizures he was going through but I'm glad it turned out well and averted the calamity that was about to befall his kingdom. Well written.
