THE SECRET FILE

_{If she had known, she wouldn't have taken her laptop with her as her instinct whispered to her.}

Kate worked with a firm company as an intern. She just started work a few months ago and after some weeks, she found favor in the eyes of Amelia, her boss who wouldn't hesitate to trust her with things in the company.

Amelia found she could be someone who has trust and can keep secrets, and so, she entrusted her with a file containing some mischievous acts in her father's company as she needed strong evidence to nail one of her father's trusted employees.

She knew her father wouldn't believe her if she talked about Jade, his father's most trusted employee because of the love he has for him. Amelia had a secret file with her which others do not know of, but Jade was already suspecting her to reveal his secret.

Jade was trying to get hold of her in one way and see if he could find something in her possession.

As soon as Kate was employed and saw her behavior on the first day, Amelia was interested in her and the next day, she became her personal assistant after talking to her father about it.

Now, Jade was getting nervous every single day and was doubting if Kate already knew about him, but he never wanted to believe anything for now.

"I want you to keep this file safe with you, Kate. I am trusting you right now because I have studied you and found out you are good at what you do. Please, this is about my life and Dad's company. Don't dare show it to anyone. Don't worry, I will compensate you real hard with this once we are able to achieve our aim. Just pretend you don't know anything, so no one would suspect you, especially Jade. He is smart, but we are smarter."

"Okay ma, don't worry, I won't breach the trust between us."

Kate had always carried her laptop with her every day to the office and was sure of safety from her home to the office. She stays in an estate with her Aunt (Mom's Sister) and she has always been early for her work as she took it seriously.

One day, She got up so early and got dressed for work. Her instinct told her not to carry her laptop, but she snapped out of it as she was excited to watch some movies she downloaded throughout the night.

She didn't have much to do at the office and she concluded taking her time to watch the movies.

She stepped out of the house and locked the gate behind her around 6am and was confident with her walk out to the main gate.

When she got out of the main gate, she was feeling uneasy as she saw two guys standing beside her as she wanted to take a bike to the Junction.

As she wanted to take another step, they did the same and whispering into her ears "Shhhh, don't shout, we only want those things in your hand"

Pointing a small knife at her, she was feeling nervous and shaking at the same time. The security at the gate already closed the gate and didn't know what was going on outside as no one was seen passing at that moment.

She surrendered everything on her and the guys took off immediately.

When they were gone, she ran back inside and informed the security about what just happened, but they couldn't trace the boys as they sped off in their motorcycle packed at a far distance.

She went home crying. Her Aunt saw her and was shocked to see her in such a state.

What is wrong? What happened?

"I was robbed Aunt, I was robbed outside the gate. Everything is gone. My phone, laptop."

As she was still crying, she remembered the file she imported into her laptop.

"The file....The file....The file"

What file? Kate, talk to me and let's see if we can find a solution.

Were the security aware of this?

She managed to speak up again, "They did but it was after it happened"

"Aunt, the file....is gone. No! My boss shouldn't know. I am done for. What would I tell her?"

As she was still crying, her phone rang and it was Amelia, her boss.

She picked it up and pretended as if nothing happened

"Hello, Kate! Where are you?
I was told you haven't resumed office today. Is anything wrong?"

No ma, she wiped her tears but her voice was cracking on the other end.

"Kate, are you crying? Is there a problem? You can just tell me so we would know what is happening"

Ma, I will be in the office to explain to you soon. I am sorry ma

Immediately she hung up the call and was pacing up and down in the living room while her aunt still couldn't understand what was going on.

"Is there anything you haven't told me of? Can't you just open up to me?"

Don't worry mummy. I need to get to the office now

She dashed out of the house and headed for the office. She went straight to Amelia's office and met her working on her system

"What happened Kate? Look at your eyes, sore and red. Did anything happen at home?"

I...I....I she stammered and wasn't on her feet as she kept staggering.

"Hey, calm down girl. Stand right and tell me the problem."

I was robbed on my way to the office this morning.

"You what?" Amelia was shocked

Yes ma, everything is gone, including the file you gave me.

Amelia couldn't believe what she was hearing. She looked at Kate and was waiting to hear if she was joking with her, not until she saw how serious she was.

"You mean the file is gone? I am finished, Kate. You already killed me.....We must find the file
This is my opportunity. Remember how serious the case is.. I managed to gather that evidence and am still waiting for strong evidence."

As they were still talking, Kate's phone rang and it was the security at the estate

"Ma, there is a young guy who wants to see you. He brought your laptop and phones and was insisting he must see you first."

What?? Who? Are you sure of what you are saying? I am on my way now. Tell him to wait

"Yes, what is it?"

The file, laptop and my phone...they are back

You mean you found them? Okay, wait, let me drive you back home.

Immediately, Amelia picked her car keys and they both stepped out of the office.

In a few minutes, they got to the gate and Kate saw the young guy who brought her things to her.

"How come? Where did you find this?"

"Calm down, the young guy motioned with his hand. I collected those things from some young guys."

"They were my street brothers who I always helped and when they brought those gadgets to me to sell, I bought it at a cheap price. While going through the system, I found your pictures and I knew it was you."

"You may not know me, but I have always been noticing you since you started going to work every morning. I was finding a way to move close to you but I couldn't because I was afraid you might turn me down. I guess the heavens made this day for us."

Handing over those gadgets to her, she thanked the guy and after checking through all the files, she was happy and gave a smile to her boss.
