The sun was high when I finally woke up, the empty and quiet corridor was brimming with sunshine from the open windows. The small specks of dust twirling in the beams of light danced in front of me and each movement made even more aware of the silence.
There was a time where I wished for silence, for just a little peace of mind and room to hear my thoughts. The cacophony of the heavy ivory tiles being skillfully smashed with precision following the music tabs before sunrise were a daily occurrence that made the rooms from the high tower vibrate. The sounds of the city could hardly be heard from the apartment and in turn, the sound of music couldn't reach the streets or the floor under the penthouse duplex.
When the strong notes stopped piercing the walls we guessed he was starting to respect our pleas of calmness in the early morning. When the precise notes started to get offbeat, at first we thought it was just tiredness from routine. Only when the music sheets stopped making sense to him and he couldn't rise the piano cover alone that we finally started to get worried.
From dust we came and to dust we return... When you see someone who once was a giant crumbling and turning to dust while the husk of what he was still stands in front of you, requiring help to breath, walk and think, you notice that the crumbling can erode those outside its reach too.
Now I can sleep until the sun has gone, the halls are empty and silent and the only sound around is stuck in my throat and leaking through my eyes.
This was a prompt challenge from a @mipiano post.
Thanks for reading, it was a different kind of writing and even though it was short it was hard to put in words.

Brilliant, absolutely loved this. I got emotional towards the end as I can picture exactly what happened🥲
Well written my friend👏🤩
Thank you so much for the compliments!

I really enjoyed the short story! I have experienced the same feeling: the sound or noise that sometimes bothers, but leaves an emptiness that is hard to bear when it is gone. Thank you for putting it so well into words! !PIZZA
It's really hard to bear and still sting sometimes. Thanks for the kind words!

I really loved this piece. The beginning few lines describing the dust dancing in the sunlight is what hooked me and hooked me well. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for reading and your continued patronage! Really glady it was entertaining and got you hooked!

beautifully written!
Thank you kind stranger! Are you from the pizza discord?
Damn, that's powerful. You could pull off poetic prose with this. Especially the way you delivered that heavy last sentence. What a message, too.
!PIZZA
Thank you so much!! I don't know enough about poetic prose to be able to do that I think. But I feel honored you think that nonetheless

Good job! It makes me wonder who the viewer is, the one who seeks the quiet... could be the pianist's cat lol.
What a great example of Death of the Author. Loved that interpretation of it being his cat XD

It left me guessing!
This was touching @trashyomen
I read your beautiful writing, twice. Then again...
Enjoyed every word and let myself visit that ambient and those feelings! Thank you so much for this gem!
Thank you for your prompt and for reading! It was a tad difficult, that's why it took a little longer XD

I know, I feel why it was difficult to remember and put it down to the paper... but it turned out to be a beautiful writing!
It's a sad piece speaking of age and regret over what one does not appreciate till it is long gone. At least that's the feeling that your short story evoked. 👍

Even though I'm using a translator, I found it very beautiful, I took it as the inevitable old age, it's only a matter of time before it shows up at our door.
