Beyond The Looking Glass is the second book in the Unseen series, a story that came to me from the other side. A story where I thought I was just the narrator until I heard the Words of the Unseen.

This second story goes beyond time and place and mixes the long ago with the here and now. Because history keeps repeating, until we learn and do something about it.

Beyond The Looking Glass - Words of the Unseen - Chapter 65

Dear Reader, when do you really know someone?

When do you trust someone with your most valuable possessions?

When do you decide to not have secrets?

What do you need to give sufficient trust in another human being?

Is it when they share the same with you? Or when you hold leverage on them?

Is it when you look into their eyes and recognize something?

Or is it more God-like as in Genesis 1:31, when God declares, “And God saw all that he had made, and it was very good

If there was ever a time in my life that I didn't feel proud, it was this moment.

"I'm not leaving, Little One," I swallow the lump in my throat.

"Yes, you and Claudia are broken. Just like Claudia's mommy and daddy."

A bitter smile creeps across my face; "I promise, I'm not leaving, I'll be there for you. Always."

"Really, Daddy Tijnie can I stay with you forever?"

I put my arms around her, "Forever crazy Voetjes and since we are now outside and in a playground you can finally do what you have asked for so often, play outside with Daddy."

With childlike movements, she slowly climbs up the steps to the slide and signals me to catch her.

I feel a tear running down my cheek, and a smile on my face. This is not the end, just the next phase, and although this grown girl is really a bit too chubby for the slide, and should not have any trouble with those steps this feels more normal than the world outside our little bubble.

Another week later

When I walk into the coffee shop around the corner to get some weed for Amber and me I join the queue behind a beautiful big ass, a little girl with hips....wow.

Oh wow, I know those hips.

"Hi Clau," I say softly since it is the first time since the playground incident that we see each other again.

"Oh hi, yes of course we both live closest to the "Muze" now and Caza has such bad weed," she says with a smile.

Still, my heart skips a beat when I look at her.

It skips a second time when I realize she gives me the feeling that we only now live in the same neighborhood we lived in since we, as in she and I, moved into the new place months ago.

"I understand your choice in weed," I say with a chuckle.

"Everything else okay? So you're living with Jorrit now?"

She nods, "It´s great, you have to come over on Friday, Pim and Noel are coming too."

"I will, what number is it because I know the building, but..."
I see small happy eyes behind hers, but it could be my imagination.

"Number 13, yes I know..." she starts when she sees my eyes.

I order 10 euros of haze, and while it is being weighed I turn around so I can see if she is waiting, and she is.

"No, it's going really well and now I finally have my own place, my own room with Jorrit I can finally put my clothes somewhere properly....."

She pauses and I see her eyes shift quickly.
"Is she at your place?"

What, how?

"What do you mean?" I ask, somewhat anxiously.

"She is at your place and she is going through your things. The big closet, she is in a hurry?" It sounds questioning but I am still completely shocked to notice the intonation.

"Uhh yes she is home, I went to get some weed she has to go back to Poels soon."

She turns to me, her eyes somewhat wild but it is Claudia. "They are showing me pictures, she is blonde isn't she?"

I nod.

"Go home quickly because she is going through your stuff, this is not right."

We are now at the corner where our paths split and I walk into my street with a somewhat quickened pace.

She is doing this to test me. How else?
I walk around the back to go inside. As I walk up the stairs it is quiet, the sliding door to the living room is still open and step inside.

Nobody?
I walk back through the kitchen to the bedroom, nobody.

It is only half past eight, where is she?

No note, nothing.

But my house does not look like it has been ransacked. I open the drawers and all the papers are still there, nothing suspicious. But what should she take with her? I have nothing of value.... shit.

I open the cupboard door and grab the tube with 5 guilder coins that I had saved since I lived here. A few days ago it was almost 150 guilders. When I lift it up it is already clear, empty and the carton of cigarettes, a present from my mother, of which I had given her a pack earlier this week was also gone.

Seriously?
I had happily paid for everything for her the past few weeks, I am not difficult when I have money. I spent more per week than what she has now taken with her... why?

I am not going to the shelter, but of course, I can go to my coffee shop and see if she walks.
