Interesting question. In the larger book, yes he does. But I don't think it works. I think that was part of the problem. It's one thing for him to be tortured by an awareness of what he does and the echo of his humanity. It's another to have him 'reform'. That would be to please the audience for a happy ending. I personally don't believe much in happy endings. It's a construct. Life doesn't end happily. The fact that it ends inevitably, is not happy😆
If I ever write this book again, it will be more 'realistic'. A vampire is like a lion, or a hyena. It hunts and kills to live.
