Enhancing my Son's Recognition, Patience, and Building Skills Using a House 3D Puzzle

in Home Edders3 years ago

Greetings!

Ever since the homeschooling of my son started I have been finding ways to enhance the knowledge and creativity of my son. It is a good thing that I have with me my wife that is so creative in almost everything. My wife is my go-to person when it comes to arts, creativity, fashion, and of course homeschooling.

A few days ago, I saw my wife swiping her mobile phone's screen. When I peeked at her I found out that she is browsing/searching for some 3D puzzle. I felt delighted, why I did not think of this before. 3D puzzle is so perfect for children.

My wife ordered three sets of the 3D puzzle. After she ordered I felt very excited because we have again a way to enhance our son's knowledge, recognition, and building skills. What I have to do now is just wait for the parcel to arrive. And after a few days, the parcel finally arrived.

As much as I am excited, my son is very excited when he saw what the delivery man gave to me. After I disinfected the parcel we immediately opened it. The parcel consists of three 3D puzzles, a House 3D Puzzle, a Windmill House 3D Puzzle, and a Two-story House 3D Puzzle. Of course, I did disinfect all three of them also.

Building the House 3D Puzzle

After I unpacked the 3D puzzle I gave my son the instruction that he need to find the matching labels of the 3D puzzle then attach them. At first, I have some trouble thinking about how to give him the instruction. I ended up just telling him to find the identical labels and to my surprise, he got it immediately.

There are some labels on the 3D puzzle that I was not able to read, good thing my son is now very familiar with numbers and letters he was the one that is able to read the labels (talk about the declining vision for adults).

After my son got the instruction we immediately started building the house 3D puzzle. At this moment I just let him find the identical labels on the 3D puzzle. But I am secretly looking for the identical labels too because I am anticipating that he might get angry if he was not able to find them.

I actually did not teach him how to use the printed instructions that came with the 3D puzzle. As of the moment, I am observing what he is doing and I found out that he is able to recognize the parts of the house 3D puzzle without even relying on the labels of the 3D puzzle.

At this point time, he just attaches all the walls of the 3D puzzle without even looking at the labels. I am also just an observer at the moment at letting his recognition, patience, and building skills work.

About 5 minutes into the activity I noticed that he is just looking at the shapes of the 3D puzzles instead of looking at their identical labels.

Then comes a time when he asks me for my help, I just repeated the instruction about finding the labels of the corresponding 3D puzzles. Still, he is very much eager in relying on the shapes of the 3D puzzles when he is first looking for parts to attach and then relies on the corresponding labels when he is not able to find the correct parts using their shapes.

About halfway to the activity, I noticed that he is able to identify the names of some parts of the house 3D puzzle with ease (good job to my wife because she is the one who taught our son about the parts of a house).

At this point in time I noticed that my son is still very heavy-handed with building a 3D puzzle, he bent some parts of the 3D puzzle while attaching them.

So, I decided to help whenever I see him struggling in attaching the parts of the house 3D puzzle.

The puzzle is almost finished when I noticed that my son is patient enough in building the 3D puzzle. His recognition skills surprised me because most of the time he just relies on the shape of the 3D puzzle in finding the correct parts to attach.

His building skills need more finesse because he is still heavy-handed when it comes to building a delicate 3D puzzle.

While his building skills need finesse, his skill in building something is great since he is able to find the correct parts of the house 3D puzzle that need to be attached in the correct place.

Of all the pieces of the 3D puzzle that he attached he struggles the most on the two windows of the attic because the window and the slot to where it needs to be attacked do not fit with each other. So, in order to attach the windows, I need to help him by making the hole a little bit wider so that the window would fit.

After a few struggles and with my help my son finally attaches the two windows of the attic. He smiled after he is done with the window (maybe because his patience is tested but he succeeded in the end).

At this moment he is now attaching the roof of the main door. At first, I thought that he would lose his patience by finding and attaching the parts of the 3D puzzle. But he is patient enough in finding and attaching most of the parts of the 3D puzzle except for the windows of the attic because they do not fit in the hole.

While he is putting up the chimney I am just watching him intensely (I am waiting for him if he is going to ask me what it is called). At first, he handed me over the chimney, he asked me to form it into a chimney form. Then he started to attach it.

He is still not asking what it is at this moment. And to my surprise he said... "Chimney is done!". Good job again to my wife in teaching him the various parts of a house.

I am expecting that he doesn't know what a chimney is because, in our country, the Philippines, houses here do not have chimneys.

But again, credit goes to my wife because she was able to teach about parts of a house that cannot be found in our country.

And then the final pieces need to be attached to their correct location. Images of trees and a boy need to be attached to their correct location. This time he first relies on the corresponding label of the pieces of the 3D puzzle.

Finishing up

After putting up the last piece of the 3D puzzle I see some happiness on his face.

This is his first time building a 3D puzzle. But this certainly not his first time is building a puzzle (he is already familiar with jigsaw puzzles).

This looks absolutely amazing! Well done to you and your son. I don't think I could do things like this with little miss she can't concentrate long enough and gets frustrated if pieces don't connect.

Yet I can jam some electrical wires together to make Hydrogen. Makes no sense sometimes lol good fun though.

This looks absolutely amazing! Well done to you and your son.

Thank you (^_^) @melbourneswest

I experienced this type of activity when I was small and as an experienced one, this is really a good deal to conduct. It tested a child's patience on how long he or she can able to finish it up. Thank you @afterglow for your never ending activities to share in this community.

Thank you @missdonna (^_^)

Yes, in everything we do in this life we need patience to attain success. Without this boy being patient he wouldn't have succeeded.

As a father you have taught him how be patience and be skillful.

Thank you @afterglow for putting this piece.

You're welcome (^_^)

Looks pretty good, that’s a lot of patience I see😍

Yes, lots of patience indeed (^_^)
