Guys, do you like art and painting?
Me - yes. But my love to it was awoken when I was a grown up alrerady. In my childhood I had no art lessons, and I was far from it.
Unfortunately, at school there was no art education either. So I wasn't taught to understand and to love art.
This love came to me when my soul was ready to get it.
Now when I've an unschooling son, I want to change the situation and to let him enter the art world in his childhood. I'm sure it will help him to see Beuaty and Depth of this world earlier.
We visit art exhibitions in our local galleries but there we can't see world famous pictures that are kept in huge galleries.
Not long ago I had job in correction of kids' educational art book. It tells kids about art and painters, teach them to see the sense of pictures and involve them into Art world.
I like this book with all my heart and used it for our home Art lessons.
At first we looked at the pictures of about 20 world known painters and their most famous works.
I told him some facts about the painter and the picture, what sense it has, what mood it shares and what details he can see at it.
At first, he wasn't interested so much, but the more I told him, the more interest he showed. Especially, if creation of the picture was connected with some interesting facts.
His favourite picture among those I've shown is Vasnetsov "3 Bogatyrs"

my dear Hive sister @lynds should know it too because I often called her 3 sons "3 bogatyrs" and explainted her what "bogatyrs" meant;)
Btw it's old Russian "super heroes";)) Brave, strong and powerful men who protect their Motherland.
Vlad likes also a funny picture by Fedotov "Aristocrat's breakfast".
and he was in love with Shishkin and his "Morning in the pine forest".
I liked different pictures more, but I'm not 9 already, so we have different choices;)
We spent for these lessons about 1 month - 1 picture a day. And in the end I was happy to see Vlad can see the difference between landscapes, portraits and life pictures. He knows many painting and painters by heart.
To help him remember them, I made some easy games in matching the name of the picture and its author.
With lines
And then with pieces of paper
It was very interesting and useful time for both of us! I've discovered many new facts about Art for me, anf I'm glad my son has done the same already now when he is only 9.
The main is that he has made his first steps to the Art world.
Such an awesome idea for lessons! And good for Mama too 😍 I love your handwriting by the way...
hehe, it's awful now;) at school it was much better. Then in the institute students had to write SO much, that speed made good and nice handwriting impossible. Now PCs shifted pens, and good handwriting skills have been lost. But I like to write by hand, it gives calming effect somehow;)
Do you use handwriting often now, Sis?
still waiting for your post;)
I’ve started to appreciate art more, especially when I hear the stories behind the paintings. Learning about the emotions and history in each piece really brings it to life for me.
yeahh! me the same. When I know some facts about How it was made, and what story inspired the author to create it, it touches me much more. Thanks for your opinion!
I certainly enjoy a lot of art myself. The classical stuff is far more interesting and appealing than the modern garbage, it’s a real shame too. My son has been getting into his own arts lately which is good, although he’s more about painting and drawing his own stuff than he is looking at a painting but it’s still good exposure for the kiddos.
I’m glad your son is enjoying it!
modern garbage - yeah! exactly
I'm impressed how modern art makes people see something deep and great in NOTHING. It's like marketing tips. you can selel anything if you create a good story about it;)
