HOME-TEACHING IN A RURAL COMMUNITY.

in Home Edders5 months ago

Another amazing milestone achieved and I felt it won't be out of place to share my journey with my family here in the @homeedders community.
Greetings to everyone, you're loved, appreciated and valued.

I have recently shared how effective Educational Technology has been in my career as a home-coach but something took me by surprise and that is my journey to a rural community.

As a Nigerian, I have been told of several rural communities that are behind and are currently experiencing a technological -divide and how achieving the goal of teaching has been very difficult/problematic. I have met with teachers who share heart-breaking experiences. These stories sounded weird until I had my own experience.

I admit that this has been a defining moment for me as a home-coach, above all I am grateful that I embraced this moment with so much enthusiasm and trust me I documented every step until success was achieved.

I met a young boy with a very Nice English name. I got Interested in him because unlike the others he had proven to be a very lively champ. My task was to teach Shedrack Mathematics so I took it from the basics. From the number concept(1-20) based on his age and exposure. Thereafter, we delved into simple addition and this became the crux of the matter.

I had to bring my creativity to bay, I got into the bush and gathered a few sticks. I had to do this because overtime,I have ascertained that teaching a child with relatable materials makes teaching effective.

Next I wrote out the numbers 2+2 boldly on the sandy path.

We used the sticks to represent each number and then went ahead to add it and we got the result as 4.

This method of using local and relatable materials made Shedrack understand addition easily.
On my part as his coach, I found teaching them Mathematics very easy. I was very happy I could teach the rural kids to their. understanding.

I love to encourage every teacher/coach, that sometimes the goal of teaching or education as a whole can be achieved by carefully using simple methods both at home and in the classroom.

Do you love teaching?
What has been your recent experience?
Are there other methods you would advise that I use?
