Surrounded by mountains and around Bukhansan National Park, it was a refreshing and pleasant stroll in Eunpyeong Hanok Village - where you'll feel like you're transported to ancient times.
It was the first day of my South Korea trip with friends and our first destination was to see this Korean village in Eunpyeong-gu, located at the northwestern part of Seoul. From downtown, we rode buses with 2 transfers, so after an hour or less, we reached this peaceful village. It was worth the hassle of traveling because we got to see the hanok, which means traditional Korean house.
Apart from tourists, I also saw some hikers. This village must be the starting point when people want to hike the surrounding mountains. My friends and I came for the village though and it didn't disappoint!
I so love the details of these houses. I heard these are modernized, meaning they're new but they still have the old school traditional vibe.
The gates, the doors, the roofs - it's so refreshing to see them!
And no, I didn't knock - someone might answer!
Even the small alleys are so gray and so stylish! And it's so clean too!
Apparently this hanok village was established on 2014 as the largest neo-hanok residential complex in Seoul. Source. I couldn't count how many houses were there but they're probably over a hundred.
The best thing I love at this Korean village is that there weren't a lot of tourists. I've been to another Korean village in Seoul (together with friends on another day) and I was just so glad we came here at Eunpyeong Hanok Village first. I love the vibes here. It's so peaceful and so spacious. I was definitely able to enjoy more here. Plus, the views of the nearby mountains make the neighborhood more calm and relaxing!
While we were enjoying our photo session, a homeowner arrived but good thing we weren't scolded or anything. He came with his car, parked and, went inside the house. So yes, people are living in these houses! They're not abandoned or for viewing only!
And because we're visiting a livable neighborhood, we're expected to not make loud noises. We tried our very best to talk quietly.
Eunpyeong Hanok Village might be far from downtown Seoul but I recommend coming here. If you love these kind of cultural expeditions, this place will surely impress you as it did with us. There are no entrance fees to the village. I believe there's a nearby museum but maybe that has an entrance fee.
Too bad we only stayed here for half a day as we're off to another province in the afternoon. We could have stayed longer and explore the area - visit the museum and look for temples.

The village is so scenic and for someone who enjoys strolling around these spots, definitely on my list.
It's definitely nice to stroll around here Mac! I think there's a hanok house here that's a cafe, but I'm not so sure. If it really is, I would have stayed there if I still have time.
