Since I was small, I love nature, beautiful scenery and beautiful places. Sometimes I went to my village stream to meditate on Nature, on God and when I am anxious and stressed i do feel a measure of happiness and contentment going to the stream to relief myself of burdensome worries.

In my secondary school days, our history teacher (Mr Kingsley Okon of blessed memory) taught me more on oceans and seas. The earth has five oceans, namely: the Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, Pacific and Antarctic oceans. I came to know that one cannot drink water from the ocean because it contains different mineral salts which is not good for the body.
Benefits
The oceans are the largest source of water. It evaporates from the seas and falls as rain. These oceans regulate the temperature of coastal areas around them. Ships that carry goods and passengers ply these big oceans thus bringing economic gains and commercial growth to rural dwellers living along those coastal areas.
People engage in different sports like swimming, water-skiing, diving and other water sports. In addition these oceans serve as tourist attraction to foreigners and others within the country.

Food
The oceans serve other useful purposes. It provides food for people. Things like fish, crayfrish, prawns, shrimps are all gotten from the seas or oceans. Periwinkle one of my favorite sea food is also from the ocean. I can't cook vegetable soup without it.

Furthermore, mineral elements as in crude oil are refined, the end products are kerosene, petroleum, diseal, gas etc all come from the ocean.
Other minerals like magnesium and copper are also found on the ocean floor. From my history lessons way back from secondary school, I have come to love oceans and the benefits it gives to us all.
Hope you enjoyed this little episode.
