Is Hive too addictive?

Is Hive too addictive .jpg

Almost every week if I don't forget it, we run a Mission within the Liotes Community where we ask people some questions that we find interesting. This week, we asked them about their New Year's resolutions. What I found very interesting is that several people will try to spend less time on hive. We have to ask ourselves: is hive too addictive?

We always complain about not having enough new users on Hive but what about all these old users who tend not to be able to get out of the Hive addiction? What's the problem with us?

Ok, of course we need to click on the different Hive games every day. We need to fight a couple of battles on Splinterlands, do some stuff on Risingstar and maybe attack some people on Golemoverlord. Fine, no problem with that. Once this is done, we probably start to go over to Ecency, Peakd or Inleo to check all the notifications that we got. Who upvoted my posts? Who gave a comment? Are there any mentions? That's always a cool part that we look forward to. Now, we need to answer these comments. It would be bad if people came to our posts, left a comment that would remain unanswered. Once this is done, we should make sure that our voting power doesn't reach 100%. Let's check our feed and give some upvotes. Oh, this looks like an interesting post! Oh, there are so many comments on this one. I need to check what it's all about... Well, where were we. Ah yes, we need to use our upvotes. Let's do that.

Ok, now the easy part is behind us and we need to come up with a topic for today's post. Hmm, what should I write about? I don't have any inspiration. Let's check the trending posts, maybe I get an idea there. Oh, why did he get a downvote on this post? Maybe it's just the usual downvotes because payout is too high but anyway let's see. There goes a real shitpost but how could it get so much upvotes? I need to investigate. What was I going to do? Ah right, I was looking for inspiration to write a post... Hmm, still nothing. Let's check my phone, maybe I can write about one of my recent excursions if I have some pics available... Oh I just remembered, today is the first of the month, so I can do a Hive power up post. That's easy. Uff, I was worried I wouldn't find a topic... Ok, let's write this post. Hmm, what community should I post in and what tags are appropriate? Oh, never mind I just use what I use all the time. Let's post this thing!

Ok, toilet break...

So let's see whether I got some upvotes already? Oh, there is even a comment there... Shit it's from a bot... Ok, not much yet, probably it will come later. Meanwhile, let's check the games. One click here, one click there, a lineup over there. Let's check the post again. Yesss, already 0.2$ upvotes. That's great. No comment yet but that's normal...

Now, we watch the time and we see that most of our day is already over. We have forgotten to eat and maybe it's time to switch off the computer. Or we just eat in front of it...

If your day is somewhat like that, then probably you suffer from a certain degree of Hive addiction... I was there and I needed to take some steps to make it less bad. How addicted to hive are you?

Greetings @achim03 ,

Appreciate your service as Witness....thank you!

Hive is addictive to be sure....^__^

It is important to stay fresh....and that is hard to do if we spend too much time in the trenches ....it will be different for everyone...finding their balance. I find it is rather cyclical...some times are just more busy than others.

Enjoyed reading your post and giving it a think...you are spot on with the timing!
.

Kind Regards,

I find it is rather cyclical...some times are just more busy than others.

For me it's also like that. It depends on the mood I'm in and what are the other priorities of the moment. Thanks for stopping by!

I change the games for curation and moderation work on a couple of Discord servers, but the rest is almost the description of an ordinary day in Hive for me... 🤣

I think the main problem is the fact that you feel like you’re losing money when you’re not doing something related to Hive. But we need to rest and disconnect for a good balance.

I think the main problem is the fact that you feel like you’re losing money when you’re not doing something related to Hive.

This is so true, in an interesting way!

In the middle is the best way for almost everything.

Like with every job, we need some time off the job and I think we often don't consider Hive as a job. I'm convinced that making sure every day that we have time off screen is very important for our long term motivation.

I can’t agree more. That's why I'm talking about looking for balance, because I wouldn't want to end up burned and I know that the best strategy is to establish that daily time away from the screen like you suggest. I prefer to dedicate a little to it every day instead of alternating intensive periods with others of zero contact. It’s more manageable and motivating.

I think I feel a bit addicted to Hive, there's a lot to do and it takes up a lot of time. One thing I'd like to try is to stop playing the hive games for a while and focus more on posting and interacting, but it's complicated, I keep thinking about the time and money I've already invested, so it's hard to suddenly stop.

But time is always a question to be taken into consideration.

I remember there was a time when I was playing Splinterlands every day manually not with one but with 4 accounts... Then I played plenty of other games besides it. I had to reduce it drastically and even my content related stuff on hive. I still spend a couple of hours on hive every day but it's much less than in the past. I would say it's more sustainable like that in the long run :-)

Splinterlands I'm thinking of quitting every day, I just don't see the point in playing... no gains, not much fun, I invest my manual time in modern mode, I even have xbot, but I don't know if it's worth spending so many DECs on passes and rentals to play wild... anyway, time is just ticking away kkkk

But did you try soulkeep part of Splinterlands? They reboot it and you still have time to join it. It's a little bit different from classic game and needs more strategy as I think.

In the end, I didn't even try, I just bought 1 pack and kept it until it opened, then I didn't invest or anything. I think a lot of the problems are my own failures to invest in splinter.

I was there LOL and had to cut that situation for my mental well being and health, hehe. But the last few months, I think I overdid it and spent less time on Hive than I would like. My challenge this year is to get a right balance ;)

The right balance is the secret sauce for our long time survival in the Hive world ;-)

Yes, Hive might be too addictive.

But on the other hand, it's the only addiction I can think of that pays you to be hooked on it :D

It sure beats the unpaid trauma of doomscrolling through toxic trash on Facenbook !

I definitely have to agree with you on that lol.

I rejoice to say I have a life, of which Hive is a valued part ... but I limit my time and the tasks I am going to participate in on it. Today, I had a post to finish and am waiting on my washer to be ready for me to move clothes into the dryer, so I am here now ... but there will be a nice bulk of Hive-less hours after this until I am ready to prepare tomorrow's posts.

but I limit my time and the tasks I am going to participate in on it

I think that this is the key to long time success on hive, or to be still around after many years.

Yep ... closing in on my sixth year ... I stay focused on what I am here to do ...

Hahaha. You have described my three year experience at Hive. I'm addicted no doubt, and when I'm not public I'm restless haha. I had not seen it from this point you indicate in the post but I think you describe the daily life of many hivers.

I think you describe the daily life of many hivers.

There is a lot of auto experience in that and I think we tick all a bit in the same way ;-)

Yes, I'm addicted to Hive, I like to see notifications more and those who play games are more addicted.

I like to see notifications

We live for them lol

Oh my.. I had a good laugh reading this one! This is really funny and I can relate to 80-90% of what's written.

Does this mean I am addicted to Hive? I guess since I am on Hive almost every day other than vacation periods, I probably am. Hehe.

I probably am

We are all addicted in some ways otherwise we would probably not have been able to stay on this platform that long ;-)

Lol. That sounds so me couple of years ago. Nowadays, I just mainly check if my vp has replenished and then go voting on posts, comment if my brain still lets me to. 🥴 and yeah, check on notifs. I always check on notifs. 🤭

I always check on notifs

They are the secret ingredient that keeps us addicted I believe ;-)

Hive can be incredibly addictive, and I found myself in many of the dynamics you described :)
Before Hive there are my jobs and my family but when I have free time I like to spend it on Hive :)
!discovery 30

Sometimes I feel that Hive is my second job :-)

Caught myself with the same thoughts when every couple or three hours I try to open hive to look rather someone from my feeds posted something interesting or not, even my wife noticed that. Sometimes I try to make such a detox for several days to free my mind from it. By the way I think it's time to repeat it but after couple fresh posts ha-ha )))

I solved this problem by not having Hive on my phone. That way, I need to switch on the computer to check things. It's more work and I prevent myself from too much hive lol

I think that I had some type of addiction when I first started and thing started working out. Now, I just check back when I have time and I don't bother going into every single detail. I am on Hive every single day so I guess Hive might still be considered an addiction.

Now, I just check back when I have time

I think that's a key element of having a healthy hive life ;-)

HIVE addiction isn't necessarily bad. In fact, if that were actually so, it'll mean that our user retention rate should be extremely high, which bodes well for the future! 🤣

our user retention rate should be extremely high

I actually believe that it is pretty high but in a way that we tend to underestimate. Where else do people stay on a platform for more than 5 years? Even Facebook can't compete with that lol

I think hive is a versatile token. It has so many uses and good volume. I try and save a lot more, but i need to balance it with savings. There are all great tokens and so is sps !

It's all about a good balance...

You are describing my HIVE experience almost perfectly. If we had as many HIVE addicts as there are TWITTER "X" addicts, HIVE would be in the top 10 cryptos of all time. For whatever reason, only the "old-timers" have the major addiction. Once you get into a routine for over 5 years... going on 8 years... it's tough to break! It's almost comical how thrilling it is to earn a $0.20 upvote, let alone a $1.00 upvote. I've been dreaming of posts earning $100+ per post for a very long time. With HIVE where it's at now, that's extremely unlikely. But $4.00 or $5.00 HIVE is what keeps the addiction alive.

We have all the tools to make people come to hive and not leave it... There is just a step in between that we are missing somewhat ;-)
