It basically boils down to the author, as you can see there's not many if any here in this post. Some of the unnecessary ones I see I ask the commenters to please not do the command on my posts and they're okay with that. If however some authors really value them and actively engage with throwing them back at commenters, etc, it can easily get out of control. There's some accounts on here with 50-100 comments where 80%+ are just that which makes curating and judging consumption of a post a nightmare.

Yeah, I have a contest post which leans that way. But we also take the time to wade through the token messages, and genuinely engage, so I wouldn't want to change anything for that particular initiative. Thanks so much for the feedback :)
