How can I move my liquid steem?

in #hive5 years ago

My dearest hive community.

Former steem community.

I have a question. How can I move my steem?

l0n6aj.jpg

Even though I’ve been involved with the steem platform for a good couple of years, I really have learned very little about exchanges, wallets and the practical maintenance involved with owning such currency.

I got complacent and was happy to just let me steem sit there in the steem wallet and build.
I never wanted to trade (don’t know how) or speculate or anything.
I just wanted to own and build, then maybe - just maybe - sell when it hit say a $100 mark (LOL).

So I’m a bit stuck.

steem-hive exchange (that even an idiot like me could understand) and I’m now in a position where I have liquid steem that I would like to keep safe or exchange for a more stable coin for the time being. The mighty @blocktrades have temporarily ceased their very convenient

The question really is; Where is the best place to open an account and send my steem to... and how should I do this?

What platform is the most trusted and is it easy to understand?

I have a Coinbase account. That’s about it.

Any up to date information on this incredibly basic topic that I really should know more about is very welcome.

Yours sincerely,
@ashtv

I see you have loads of options already. Blocktrades was the easiest, even grandma could use that.. but..

I use Bittrex, pair BTC/STEEM - Sell order.
Pair BTC/WhateverCoinYouWant - Buy order - or just hoard BTC.
Hive pairs with BTC on Bittrex.

It takes a little getting used to but soon it will be like taking your jumper off while driving down the M1 at 90mph... you know... easy!

upvote for that one!! 😄

Options galore mate, thanks!
EASY as that 😆

I tried to open a Bittrex account the other week but failed the verification thing somehow.
It sort of crashed and then wouldn’t accept my login or let me submit again.Hi mate @slobberchops,

Is this normal, to submit drivers license stuff?

Bittrex I know is the best but you have to do their KYC process which is just easy so that you can have an account with a 200BTC limit withdrawal per day.
If you ever get some 200 BTC please give some to me LOL < joke >
@ashtv

Bittrex, Bittrex, Bittrex, bro! Very quick and super easy once you've learned how to do it. You can send steem straight from your wallet. Where steem wallet(transfer option) asks for account you just write "bittrex" and then in memo box you enter the memo supplied by bittrex, which instantly appears when you click on the "deposit" option from your bittrex site(You can find this more easily by going into the "holding" option on your bittrex account. Hope you get sorted, buddy.

Brilliant, got me sen signed up. Cheers!

The easiest option is probably to send your Steem to binance. Binance will provide you with a specific address and memo to send your Steem. IMPORTANT: dont forget the memo.
Then you can trade the steem for btc.

..and then you can just use blocktrades (BTC to HIVE)

Let me know if you need any help with all that.

Glad to see you move to Hive :-)

Thanks! Kind of your help offer and the detail is very appreciated.

I found this tutorial pretty easy to follow.. with some good screen captures as well..

Reading through the suggestions here they all seem pretty similar..
send with memo

Fantastic, thanks for the link!

I use Steemengine it is simple to use and buy Hive or btc with. Not sure if I am getting the best rates but for my volumes that's OK. It is great that it is built-into Steem.

Ahhh good shout on that.
Didn’t realise SteemEngine did that. I use it to claim rewards occasionally, so I’ll dig in to things 👍🏻

Yo. Blocktrades will be up again in a week or a few weeks supposedly for a short period to help anyone exiting Steem, they said.

I would look into Ionomy. No extreme personal data share needed for you to sign up.

I used them to convert some of my Steem to Hive. Worked well. I would not keep anything on their website long-term though.

We are all learning. Be well.

Awesome, great heads up. I’ll look in to it for sure

I was worried too, I've only used blocktrades, then I joined @ionomy. Using this Tutorial on Hive I now just send my STEEM to user name ionomy with code in memo, now you have your STEEM sitting on ionomy exchange.

Next step

From the Market Menu

1: trade STEEM for BTC: I didn't use Limit Order I used Market Order just makes life easier (limit order means you put in the price you are willing to sell/buy, then quantity, then place you order and hope someone fills it). You will get better value this way but you have to wait for someone to trade with you who accepts your price.

2: Intermediate Step: This is my favourite place, I can now buy ION, ETH, HIVE etc, the choice is mine.

3: trade BTC for HIVE: same procedure as 1: sending is easy as well, just send to your HIVE user name and quantity of HIVE tokens. The transactions is not immediate, it may take a day or 2 to appear in your HIVE account.

Fantastic, thanks for the detail!

I've been using Binance... Convert my steem to BTC and from there send it to blocktrades to buy hive...

Not the best, but it worked...

Ace, cheers!

https://ionomy.com/ had some good deals lately, I've been using it. But there are others too.

You could also use ProBit, Bittrex. I have an account on all of them, just in case. If think about leaving some STEEM/HIVE on the exchange, to make some trading and airdrop gain it would be good to check their latest post:

https://peakd.com/@probit https://peakd.com/@ionomy

Excellent. Good tip there to have a few existing accounts ready to go incase of different situations.

I'd just advise you took to keep away from Chinese Exchanges... you know... they tend to go rogue.

ionomy is instant, I use that, but very low volumes and maybe not the best prices, also high fees I've heard mentioned, although I don't pay too much attention to that!

Bittrex is my favourite though. I'd open up an account with them for starters and use that.

You then want to sell if for BTC and if you're stopping there you'll need a wallet to send the BTC to, although if yer gonna send BTC to a wallet, you're better off converting it to LTC if it's small amounts, as sending BTC costs about £3, litecoin about ten times less.

I recommend Coinomi as a decent free phone based crypto wallet.

If you're converting to Hive, just send it here, obviously.

Bil.prag below/ above has a decent explanation of how to get your Steem to Bittrex, that's probably going to be the most daunting bit!

Fantastic, cheers for the detail mate.
I’m definitely keen on a mobile wallet so I’ll be checking out Coinomi for sure

While Binance got some shit from their participation in the Steem-takeover, I still think they're one of the better exchanges to use. Bittrex has also been working well for me since I started with crypto 3 years ago.

Ace, thanks man.
Bittrex does seem to be getting the most mentions of positive experiences.
I’ve signed up to that today 👍🏻

Hope you’re well man!

i think most exchanges work the same. so coinbase is probably the same as bittrex. 2 years ago when i was trying to make an acc on exchanges, because i am from serbia and i was looking for most known exchanges i managed to open an acc only on bittrex.

So here is an advice from someone that has very little experience but did it in the last few weeks :D

Go to your Holdings page (i will write names from bittrex, not sure are them the same on coinbase) and look for steem. there will be two options Deposit and Withdraw. Click on Deposit, new window will open with memo and account. Then go to steempeak and click Send. In the new window copy the memo that you got from bittrex (coinbase), copy the account that you got from bittrex (coinbase) write the number of steem you want to transfer, click send and wait for few minutes.

I would do this first with 1 Steem, just so you could test it and see did you did everything right. If you have your 1 steem on the exchange, then do it all again for more steem.

Currently you can transfer that 800 steem and steem that is in SteemPower you need to powerdown first :D

If you don't want to change that steem to BTC, Hive or something else, maybe you don't need to move it. it is all on you :D

Important: memo is important when transferring to exchanges because they use one account for all transfers and memo is the info that connects it to your account on exchange.

if you need any help, write.

edit: now thinking, not sure that coinbase has steem listed.

Cheers for the run down man! I’ve just signed up for Bittrex.
Yeah Coinbase doesn’t support Steem bit it is listed as an asset that you can watch

hope it works :D if you need help, write
