우리 인생에서
정녕 중요한 것은,

당신이 어떤 차를 모느냐가 아니라
얼마나 많은 사람들을
태워 주느냐는 것이다.

당신이 사는 집의 크기가 아니라
얼마나 많은 사람들을
집으로 초대하느냐는 것이다.

당신의 사회적 지위가 아니라
당신의 삶을 어떤 사람들과
함께 살아가느냐는 것이다.

당신이 무엇을 가졌는가가 아니라
남에게 무엇을 베푸느냐는 것이다.

얼마나 많은 친구를 가졌는가가 아니라
얼마나 많은 사람이 당신을 친구로
생각하느냐는 것이다.

얼마나 많은 일을 했느냐가 아니라
당신의 가족과 사랑하는 이들을 위하여
보낸 시간이 얼마나 되느냐는 것이다.

당신이 좋은 동네에 사느냐가 아니라
당신이 이웃 사람들을
어떻게 대하느냐는 것이다.
