GitHub is now free for teams.

which basically allows private repositories with unlimited collaborators.
I know the necessity of private repositories (for temporary projects, tests), and this might be the reason why Hive chose GitLab, which allows free private repositories with unlimited collaborators already.
But in fact, Hive project's GitLab is not even the one of GitLab, but privately hosted one, which can't be good for many reasons.
I hope @blocktrades and anyone involved in the Hive development to consider this seriously.
ps. I don't have any strict preference over the two chains, and try my best to have objective opinions. This is also the one reason why I proposed the independent curation project https://peakd.com/proposals/89
Unfortunately, I'd become already very busy before the split, so my participation in either chain will be quite limited for a while. But as far as I've discovered so far, hosting the source code of the project on https://gitlab.syncad.com/hive which is privately owned, doesn't make sense to me to be honest. As I mentioned, I understand that it might be due to cost-saving. But now, GitHub is also free. Consider the change before it's too late.
Hope two chains bury the hatchet soon. Stay healthy and safe.
PS. maybe I was a bit ambiguous?
It's not about GitHub vs GitLab.
It's about https://gitlab.syncad.com vs (GitHub or GitLab)
GitHub is owned by Microsoft... The strongest feature of Gitlab as far as I know is an open-source core software.
There's literally no difference in terms of public vs private here. Both gitlab.com and gitlab.syncad.com are sites owned by private companies. The hive repo itself is public. Putting it on gitlab.com wouldn't change that.
You're technically right, but you really think people see gitlab.com and gitlab.syncad.com in the same way? I'm just taking about image, and I'm saying this for Hive. If you don't like my suggestion, that's totally fine.
Let me ask this way, is there any other major blockchain whose source code is hosted in your way? Probably not. Again, it's about image. As you wrote in other comment, it's not about my preference. please don't see it like giant company vs small company.
Even though I think Gitlab Inc also wants to sell their gitlab.com in the future as github did, still most people would believe gitlab.com looks much better and more stable than private hosting.
