The Hive blockchain, known for its decentralized applications such as social media and gaming, relies heavily on its network of nodes to ensure stability and security. Here i want to examine the top 10 nodes in the Hive blockchain, focusing on their geographic distribution and the ISPs that they use. It’s important to note that this analysis focuses solely on the distribution of nodes from an infrastructure and connectivity perspective, without considering the geographic origins of the node operators.
The list of nodes used in my research
- api.hive.blog – Canada
- api.deathwing.me – United States
- hive-api.arcange.eu – France
- api.openhive.network – Poland
- techcoderx.com – United States
- api.c0ff33a.uk – United States
- hive-api.3speak.tv – Germany
- hiveapi.actifit.io – Finland
- rpc.mahdiyari.info – United States
- hive-api.dlux.io – Germany
Geographic Distribution of Nodes
Analysis of the top 10 Hive nodes reveals a significant concentration in the United States, which hosts four of the ten primary nodes. However, it is also noteworthy that a substantial number of non-U.S. nodes are located in European Union countries, indicating a strong presence and contribution from the EU region to the Hive network.
Distribution by Country:
- United States: 4 nodes
- Germany: 2 nodes
- Canada: 1 node
- France: 1 node
- Poland: 1 node
- Finland: 1 node
Specifically, Germany (2 nodes), France (1 node), Poland (1 node), and Finland (1 node) are all EU member countries, demonstrating the significant role and influence of the European region in the Hive network. This geographic distribution adds an international dimension to the blockchain and highlights the crucial role Europe plays in its infrastructure.
Analysis of ISPs
Regarding ISPs (Internet Service Providers), the Hive blockchain nodes use various providers, with a notable concentration on a few of them. Hetzner Online GmbH and CloudFlare Inc. are the two most common ISPs, each supporting three nodes. OVH SAS and OVH Hosting Inc. follow with two nodes each, while Misaka Network Inc. supports one node.
Distribution by ISP:
- Hetzner Online GmbH: 3 nodes
- CloudFlare Inc.: 3 nodes
- OVH SAS: 2 nodes
- OVH Hosting Inc.: 1 node
- Misaka Network Inc.: 1 node
Hetzner Online GmbH and CloudFlare Inc. play a crucial role in the stability and resilience of the Hive network due to their ability to handle large volumes of traffic and provide robust protection against DDoS attacks. OVH, with two different entities, also significantly contributes to the network, highlighting the importance of European infrastructure in managing Hive nodes.
Conclusion
The Hive network displays a geographically diversified yet concentrated structure, with a significant presence in the United States and a strong European contribution. This distribution not only ensures a robust and resilient network but also underscores the importance of ongoing evolution in decentralization.
It is essential to emphasize that this analysis focuses solely on the distribution of nodes from an infrastructure and connectivity standpoint. The geographic origins of the node operators have not been considered. Further expansion of nodes into other regions and greater diversification of ISPs could further enhance the resilience and decentralization of the Hive blockchain, strengthening its global infrastructure.
This analysis provides valuable insight into the current state of Hive nodes and suggests that reinforcing decentralization might be key to a more robust and secure future for the network.
